The Dawn Patrol: Comments

Why haven't you written more songs? (Or if you have, where are they?) Someone with your talent for finding the perfect phrase, your nonstandard sensibility, and your encyclopedic knowledge of pop music couldn't possibly fail to produce interesting songs.

Thank you, Joseph! I have written a few more songs, but songwriting requires a different kind of creativity from nonmusical writing. It doesn't come easily for me.

I'm laughing out loud at that last (non-italicized) line.

Aimless pop fan taste-sharing: I was never able to warm up to Emitt Rhodes' stuff, and that's been true of most entirely self-played-and-sung albums I've heard, e.g. Michael Penn. I can see that, objectively, all the ingredients are there, but it seems somehow lifeless, and I remain unmoved.

Dawn,

speaking of great pop music, are you familliar with the 80's band Prefab Sprout? I heard a rumour once that thier leader, Paddy MacAloon, was once studying to be a priest, but I don't know if that's true. Anyway, I love that band......

Never got into Prefab Sprout, but I know they've got a devoted following.

This is the first I've heard Alan Merrill performing Alan Merrill (it's terrif!), but I have several albs by his mom. And I saw her sing a song at a Stan Getz' memorial service in NYC.

You multi-talented woman, you! Thanks for the nice words on The Anderson Council's latest. Take care.
