The Dawn Patrol: Comments |

A history of the Dave Clark Five would be in order, which I'm sure our hostess could provide. I often wondered what became of them, because back at the beginning you would hardly ever hear "The Beatles" mentioned without "and the Dave Clark Five". They were, for a time, co-equals in the popular conception here, and then POOF it was Beatles, Beatles, Beatles. |

Did you know that Larry Norman and Buddy Miles have also just been taken from us? The Grim Reaper seems to be working overtime on celebrities. |

My favorite Dave Clark Five hit...by far...is: |

My favorite is "Because." And now I feel like part of my youth has died. That was an important song. Won't go into it. But it was. |

Weren't they inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year? They're one of those groups I've always liked but just never have been able to find a "Best of" on CD or even on iTunes. |

The DC5 were gear. What a great band. |

Mike Smith is the most unknown major rock 'n' roll vocalist of the 60s. This despite the DC5 having 24 Hot 100 singles, most of them Top 40 hits, in the decade. Purists know the guy, for sure, but not the average fan. They think Dave Clark was the singer. My favorite Mike Smith moment? Easy---"Do You Love Me." It's every bit as good as Lennon's take on "Twist & Shout." Classic stuff. |
