Dawn, perhaps you should consider emailing some questions to your prospective interviewer...just suggestions of course.

I need to find new ways to answer the questions that keep coming up again and again . . . On the other hand, there are a number of questions I haven't been asked, to which I could answer something I haven't said before.
Doesn't the answer to the problem suggest itself here? Use their standard question as a springboard to give an answer to a question they haven't asked. "Why did I write the book? Well, for the usual reasons, but also to explore in depth various questions and issues arising from the matter of living a chaste life, such as, for example, (insert unasked question here) the lonely person, who has been chaste for some time and not by choice, can still find that sense of wonder that is the "thrill of the chaste" because . . ."
I don't know. Just a thought (and the typical way of answering questions in Washington, D.C.).

The doldrums are something everyone, even accomplished writers, can count on from time to time, certainly? I can't imagine that at another moment, and fairly soon, one would feel like there is no end to the number of answers one will spin off at the mere drop of a hat!
I would say, reaching a bit, and, no doubt, saying more about myself than any one else, that chastity unless one has a vocation to the religious life (which is a kind of nuptial and generative chastity) is a step toward more; namely, relationship, marriage, and generativity of new life.
Single, chaste life is a beautiful thing, and I won't beat the drum saying that marriage and family are superior. Just thinking and saying more than I should, no doubt.

The DC way indeed; but put another way, you are the messenger--so deliver the message. If you want them to get past, "SO! You're the one who gave up sex?" then you have to take the reins and go for it. The end of the question just means it's your turn to start talking, so do so!
Unless you lead them there, the questioner will never get to the deep end. They may flail about uncomfortably when you veer into Chesterton and/or Theology of the Body, but that's okay. Your book is designed to challenge people, not make them comfortable
You've been through this a bunch now, but don't forget that every time you sit for one of these things, it's the first time the interviewer has ever talked to you. In many cases, they have not read the book (or even part of it). They probably don't care if you answer the exact question; they just want you to say something interesting.

Thanks -- appreciate the advice. Would not consider e-mailing questions, though; I've resisted that even when the interviewer has requested them. Just not my thing.

Dawn, I really enjoy your blog.
I am curious as to how you would answer the first question as the situation applies to me (I'm in my early thirties) -- not to mention a very sizeable number of single Christian women! I am quite certain that God created me to be a wife and mother, so I honestly have to say that "wonder" is the last word I would choose to describe my unwanted chastity and singleness.

Dawn,
Even if it's not 'your thing' to email questions, you probably should do it if the interviewer requests it. It's a way to help the interviewer do a better job in the limited time available of interviewing you. The message of your book is too important to let a reluctance to provide questions get in the way. Besides, you've already written some very good ones!

Gillian, I appreciate your question. I'm busy right now, but hope to respond to you tomorrow, either in this comment thread or on my blog.

Or perhaps it's a sign that you should write a new book, and people will have to ask new questions! Or at least, the answers to the same old ones will either be necessarily new answers or tie in the with questions you're wanting to be asked.
Maybe.
