Gravatar I went over to Wankers blog and his 'support the troops' is nothing more than rehashed kennedy rhetoric.

The easiest way to convince people is to use an argument that has no merit, but you give it weight and support it with half truths. This is called the Straw man argument. This is what Wanker offers. He offers no proof, except that Bush lied.

Bush didn't lie and the war has never been about WMD. This shows the world how uninformed Wanker and the other Marxists really are. But when they rely on the MSM for their information and the ilk of kerry/kennedy it is not suprising that they have received their marching orders 2 years ago and have not been updated since.

This was the same distortions they used during the election it was a lie then and it is a lie now. It didn't work then and it won't work now.

His theme is to support the troops, if you support the troops, wanker, you support the war it is that simple. People like wanker are as useless as tits on a bull.

They don't want to know the truth, they hate the president and that is enough for them. Don't confuse them with the truth. Afterall, knowing the truth requires some effort to think and to follow logically the events that led up to the war.

This wanker and his Marxists counterparts can/Will not do.

Gravatar Mark,

You correctly point out that the War in Iraq is about much, much more than WMD ... it is part of a global struggle that we did not start. But we must finish it.

Hopefully, more people will see that you can not claim to support some one or something and wish that they fail, and undermine their leadership, and make their task more difficult than it already is. Instinctively, when this is pointed out, people know this. But it is important that we continue to expose the lie and make the Hard Left explain their conduct in this time of war.

As they do so, more people of goodwill will rise up and join with America in this struggle.

Gravatar Leftism is drenched in the conceit of "caring". Caring provides an excuse and justification for everything leftists claim to believe. "Caring" is fluid and ephemeral enough to never require explanation, and has the value of elevating every act, however destructive, to one of magnanimity.

You have to give lefties credit for that. They've found an indestructible and continually blameless way to present themselves, like the devil. They just care so much that consistency, good will, backbone, truth and honor don't matter. Caring washes them clean.

The default position for not supporting the war is "caring" about the troops, which is not a particularly hard thing to do, unless you're a Move-On mud-dwelling bivalve who wishes that more of them will be killed, or will kill their officers.

From "caring", it's an easy step to euphemize it as "support", which is Orwellian, but leftism is nothing BUT Orwellian. It's so Orwellian that even lefties believe their own BS.

It's fascinating to watch the intellectual trickery and legerdemain of lefties. If they applied half their energies to legitimate thinking they might have a chance at elective office. As it is, the great Democratic Party will sink into the sludge pool dripping from the crazy Left.

Gravatar As usual, Rhod, you touch on the larger points and shoot 'em up before they can hit the keyboards with even a sentence fragment.

You mention the devil ... and his tactics, that is, evil masquerading as good. Much better sell that way, of course. There are a few, but not many customers who will just buy "evil" boldly advertised as such.

But when you sell bad as good, or just "not so bad", then people can learn to tolerate it ... be harmed by it ... defenses broken down, to where they will accept it some day without the currently-necessary false advertising.

One thing that keeps coming through loud and clear through the continuing discussions with the Left on the issues of the day is that very few of them can just come out and say what they truly believe. This is political disaster, except in certain corners of the earth that are generally declining in population. This is very good news. This means that there is a large portion of the public who is not yet sufficiently anethesized to accept their agenda.

Gravatar DC:

Mark's post was evocative, because it reminded me that this is a moral struggle, a battle against falsities, which are the paving blocks to hell. I don't use that word to mean, necessarily, the place of condemnation in some Western religions, although it meets the example either way.

Every hell on earth, too, begins with a lie, and a lie disguised as truth or elegantly dressed as pure disinterested motive is the worst kind. Leftism is a collection of lies, and lots of people striving to be better, buy the rotten package with that hope. Leftism is easy, a soft path underfoot to nowhere in particular. I know that they'll dispute that.

"Supporting the troops" might be just such a hat trick for sensitive upper class liberals, most of whom would never serve or allow their children to serve, or invite an enlisted neighbor to the soiree. In my precious, face-lifted Volvo-infested Connecticut River town, enlisting in the service is thought of as a lowborn escape or an expression of low ambition. Most in these parts have no sympathetic or philosophical or physical understanding of the deed. If they did, they wouldn't be lefties, but their egalitarian fantasies compel them to pay lip-service to the military.

I think it was Michael Barone (a liberal) who divided America between soft and hard cultures, with the left represented on the soft side, enjoying an essentially parasitical relationship to the right. This duality isn't new. It has always existed, but the stakes are especially high right now.

Gravatar Actually, I don't care if this is a moral or economic or political or religious struggle. It is real. It exists, and all the leftist bullshit fails to make it go away.

Gravatar Nickie,

Indeed. The Leftist bravo sierra is being hurled at us while the struggle is going on ... but I still wear a smile.
