Well, I'm pleased by Harriet's(?) decision. I'm also happy that she used the 'too close to the President and I can't freely provide the info the Senate needs' defense. That prevents any subsequent Alberto Gonzales nomination.
C'mon DC, it's your turn to collect predictions on the next choice.

Nick,
I already owe you a can of Wolf Brand Chili for my Edith Jones prediction. I will think about it.
How about this, though? Astros lose in 4? Man ... at least we have some good news today.

A gracious post. You should have been more gracious in your comments on Surber's site, though. Didn't see anything 'pouty or whiny' in his remarks.
And 'get on board' is a rather chilling suggestion. Let others do groupthink, and let Surber be Surber.

Now you know what it is like to be from Buffalo.
O-4, Swept, Blow-out, wait til next year !
I guess I am happy that she withdrew her name.
What is good though is 'Schmuckie' shumer, and Harry Reid are not happy about her withdrawal, and insist that the extreme Right-Wing, Whackos are the reason she withdrew. Hopefully they are correct on that one.
At least her withdrawal was toned so that it reflects on her as opposed to the President.

Did you see that Charles Krauthammer suggested basically this exact exit strategy in his column Oct 21

Mr. Snitch,
Don is a big boy, and big enough (I think) to understand what I was saying. Don said we are looking at political Armageddon, a Demo Senate, etc. and then ... he asked, "Happy?". Sorry, but this sounds a little like sour grapes to me, and more Chicken-Littleism-vote-for-HM-or-the-world-will-
end. It's the same sort of conduct (ironically) that Don and others were accusing me and my conservative brethren of.
Now ... re: my "Get on board" comment. Let me 'splain. What I am basically doing is, reaching my hand out from the train ... the Conservative Mo Train, that is ... and trying to give Don and my other friends who were wrong on the Miers nomination a hand up. That's all.

Mark,
Yes, I know ... But we already felt your pain. No more reminders needed.
Johnny,
I saw that CK said that. It was a nice exit strategy. It leaves a lot of room. The beauty of the whole thing is that now Pres. Bush can say, "Listen, I caught it for the lack of qualifications, so you certainly can't complain about Michael Luttig, et al." Let's hope. Plus, I think this makes it more likely to get a quality appeals court judge as a nominee. I think he will get it right. I thought the same thing before Roberts and Miers. He has corrected the mistake, and some are still hand-wringing. Too bad. Time to move on. I am wishing the best for the President.
To those who may question the withdrawal, I am going to make my last, farewell snark: Trust the President.
Okay, we move on.

I am just glad you can exhale now, DC. When I heard the news, you were the first guy I thought of and I knew you were pleased that the ship was getting back in the right direction. What is amazing is that, normally, I could have cared less about news like this...
Sorry about game 5. At least you have one #1 team still.

Khix,
Thanks for the kind wishes, and yes ... my sports thoughts will now be focused exclusively on the college gridiron.
Appreciate your being engaged. More people are, and it shows the power of the new media. One person at a time ... and so on.
We press on.
