Gravatar Get rid of special prosecutors

Gravatar Amen, Don. I will agree to that.

Gravatar I believe that every Special Prosecutor should be the subject of a Special Prosecutor following the completion of his/her duties. Of course, THAT Special Prosecutor should be.... etc. etc.

That should eventually tie up the schedules of every publicity-seeking prosecutor in the nation.

Gravatar I just listened to this Democrat shill fitzgearld(sp) he is a real piece of garbage.

Gravatar Love it, guys. Laughing all the way to the Clenis. Damned special prosecutors indeed!

BTW, Fitz isn't one.

In this case he is acting as de facto Attorney General since the other real AG (Alberto Gonzales, in a strange coincidence) had to recuse himself. The special prosecutor act (whatever it was called) expired and was not renewed.

Ken Starr? Now, HE was a special prosecutor.

Damn'em all, though.

Hehehe. You guys are funny.

Way to ironic that BC was impeached for just exactly the same (alleged) crime that Libby is now accused of. But now? "Political Prosecution"

Pathetic, folks.

Gravatar He returns. Actually, PW, I wasn't crazy re: the endless special prosecutoring during the Clinton era. That said, Clinton admitted to lying under oath as he attempted to derail a civil suit, was held in contempt by a federal judge, lost his law license, all while he was the HEAD OF THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT. As President, I think he was a bit of a special case. Yet ... yet ... hang in there, PW, for I know that you don't pay much attention to "nuances" when they come from conservatives.

I never advocated, and never would have advocated a criminal prosecution of Clinton for his offenses. Impeachment is not a criminal offense; it is a political act of the legislature. So, bone up on your history and civics, young man.

My post is about the usage of the criminal justice system (and the concurrent threat of deprivation of liberty) against political adversaries.

As for Fitzgerald, from what I hear, Mark, he is not a political hack. That is a good thing. I hope so. I just think, and I say this as a former prosecutor, that this is over the line. We are prosecuting way too much ... and it is being done at the behest of political enemies.

In this case, we have no underlying offense. All we have are offenses committed during the course of the investigation?

Some conservatives disagree, and many liberals I am sure won't acknowledge that I genuinely believe what I am saying, whether there is a D or an R in the WH.

Gravatar We can allow The Left a little titillation with this indictment. It's all they have. The habit of furtive fantasy over reality is their only happiness. Rationality, valid comparisons and political success departed their shores long, long ago.

Libby is to the Charlies of The Left what a caterpillar larvae is to a starving woodsman. Munching on the yellow goo he imagines a banquet and thinks he's saved.

If Libby is guilty of the charges, then he's guilty. DC's wisdom on all this is simply true, but this is the bizarre end to the legalistic fetishes introduced into the system.

Whatever happens here, or with Bush, we're never going back to the chattering idiocy and infantilism of leftism, or a day which involves the likes of Albert Gore, John Kerry or any of the other dimwits that slither around in the Donk Party.

I'm not worried about this.

Gravatar Maybe not a hack, I listened to his entire press conference twice, i-Pod, and that took some doing, the guy answers questions like clinton, and kerry never really addressing the question but dancing around with the question and skirting it directly.

He has been at it for two years and this is the best they can do. an obstruction charge, what happened to the outting charge of a supposed Covert agent, this whole thing smacks of political bullshit.

If they were really interested in the FACTS, they grand jury would have summoned, the Liar Wilson, his freaky wife and Novak should have been questioned as a matter of fact their neighbors knew, according to reports I have read, the whole neighborhood knew she worked for the CIA.

Shumer is involved in this up to his greezy eyeballs.

And to the putz, this is not like Clinton, Clinton is a pathological liar, was and still is, he is as corrupt as they come, there is no comparison.

This is not justice, this is as close to kangeroo court as one can get with out the clowns.

They got libby on the Martha Stewart law.

Maybe NOW the pres will stop trying to play nice with these low life bastards, and thats what they are bastards , they have no ideas, they have no vision for the future the only way they can win is to try to take out their opposition through shady legal proceedings, ala ronnie earle. it aint gonna work this time.

We got the Miers nomination reversed we can reverse this injustice, too

Gravatar Rhod and Mark,

Hear, hear! Rhod, I figured I'd see you ride in from the flank if Charlie showed up.

I agree that, in the big scheme of things, this is a big nothing for the left.

Incidentally, I wasn't a fan of the Martha Stewart fiasco, either. Let's see ... no insider trading, but we gothca during the investigation. It smacks of prosecutorial backside protection.

Mark, I didn't have the benefit of hearing the presser, as you did. So, I will defer. It does appear to me (based upon reports of people I respect) that he is not some wild-eyed politico, though ... a la Ronnie Earle.

And ... Darth Rove appears to have escaped indictment. We'll see.

My commentary here is principally about the larger issue that all Americans should be concerned about: Criminalizing political disputes ... and further criminalizing more and more.

Gravatar DC

I don't know if this jerk is a political hack or not and don't care.

He was supposed to find out who outed an already outed cia agent. The indictment does not address that. They did not call Ms plame nor did they call the Liar to find out for sure if he was even credible.

So what you got for an indictment is 'he said, she said,'

With this they have ruined a good man, his reputation and his family.

On obstruction charges, and this shysters claim of how he follows the law and how great his credentials are, he is a self-serving democrat punk.

The purpose was to find out who outed the Bitch, and to that he has found nothing, she donated to the democrats, Kerry in particular, under he supposed cover name, but this great self-serving piece of crap never looked into that.

The sole purpose of this witch hunt is to get and destroy the President or at least embarrass him and that they are achieving.

Slip and fall lawyers like this guy come a dime a dozen and he is dancing to Shumers tune.

Libby has been indicted, so what, Grand juries are notoriously shallow when it comes to looking at real facts. Ronnie Earle had to encourage his many GJs to find something to charge Delay with so what makes this Fitzgearald any different? The dems call him the modern day Elliot Ness, meaning Al Capone is in the white house ? I suppose thats an improvement over Adolf.

If they had anything, after two years of wasting the Tax payers money there would have been a whole suit case full of indictments and as it is after two years this is all this guy can come up with.

It has been said they can indict a Ham sandwich, so what does that say about how seriousness the charges are.

With that said, I get off my soap box, but I still want to know when in the hell are we as conservatives going to start fighting back.

There is still a drowning in a creek in Massacheustts that has never been properly investigated. They should get Mark Furman to look into that one too, he got one of the kennedys maybe he can get the Orca from Mass.

Gravatar Two years work to get THAT? If there's no crime, dammit, Fitz will find one. Wanna bet this trial will manage to produce muy smoke and not much else?

Gravatar Some one get some fans for Mark. I hear you, man. I agree it is unjust. Hang in there. All will work out.

It's much ado about nothing, and we'll see how it pans out. In terms of fighting back, not sure what we can do at this point.

As more people understand what the indictment is about ... and what it is NOT about ... things may very well fall into place.

Gravatar DC:

I've been pondering your thoughts on political prosecutions, and the distinctions made between real crimes...or those things which offend the polity...and those things which chiefly offend The State.

Even in those things which primarily offend The State, the state attempts to connect the act with something which offends the people (in the Libby case "national security"). All totalitarian systems do this, and the authoritarian evils lurking in every bureaucracy make this hypocrisy automatic.

This is why collectivist thinking is so monstrous, and why we must defeat The Left everywhere and always. The comparison between Leftist intentions and Leftist results is always asymmetrical.

You're providing a lesson in the subtleties of conservative loathing for The Modern State. PJ O'Rourke described the old Soviet Union as "the Motor Vehicle Department with guns", and this is the awful course we're on in The West. Every bureaucracy, even those dedicated to "humane" deeds, is a block of concrete in the political prisons we build for ourselves.

What the Libby thing reveals, and (I hate to say it), even the Clinton affair, is that the Intrigue of the old monarchical Courts and the bloody machineries of 20th century totalitarianism are forming in our country as well. It's a symptom of fragility, and a deep sickness in places that matter. We have a long slog ahead of us.

Gravatar Great insights, as usual, Rhod. Indeed, the trouble/frustration for me is that people don't seem to understand the implications of it all. Too busy trying to win politically to look at who is losing. We all are if we keep it up.

But, we press ahead and keep telling the truth. There are more voices now, at least more that can be heard.
