Just wondering with McCAins feel good legislation, will US Troops have to read POWs their rights(Miranda) ? Afterall, look at the fustercluck the dems came up with about Abu Ghrab, there attempt to totally neuter our interrogation resources can lead only to disaster.

Everyone knows this is what they want but somebody has to stand up and say enough is enough.

I am really sorry McCain had to endure what he did at the Hanoi Hilton, but he wasn't alone, and since when do they only need one 'expert' to justify this, there are still hundreds of former POWs who strongly disagree with McCain why isn't there input required?

Its crap like this that castrates our Military.

Gravatar I agree with you, Mark. The problem here seems two-fold, though. McCain is a genuine hero for enduring the Hanoi Hilton. Plus, the MSM worships him. So, we have insecure politicians who won't stand up to him, combined with a MSM ready to nail any one who does. It's a tough deal.

I should say ... All of the foregoing applies when McCain is attacking Republicans. If he ever gets the nomination (God forbid) then he will find the sledding a little tougher. No, a lot tougher.

Gravatar My guess is that the world will always intrude upon laws like this one, as it always does. Three possible effects will be:

A) A reduction in POW's through the it-ain't-worth-it principle, with more of them being killed outright. Yes, this happens. It's a variation on supply and demand. If they don't supply, there's no demand.

B) A continuation of the current dealings with POW's, which might already be chemical in nature. You don't have to inflict stress when you can reduce inhibitions and find out things you need to know in other ways.

C) The layered problems of having the descriptions provided by McCain defined by Courts, Courts Martial and European meddlers. This is by far the worst consequence.

There's no reasoning with McCainiacs, because McCain worship isn't reasonable. In view of our recent discussion with Phantom, if he's typical, then McCain enjoys something like the Kennedy Dispensation, which posits that the Real Man must never be measured against The Legendary Man. The slightest act becomes scripture.

What I find so offensive in McCain is his awareness of this advantage, and how his Straight Talk Express always veers right around the mumbo jumbo reality that passes for straight talk. It's all theatre. This is dishonesty and cynicism on a grand scale. In this case, he knows his accomplishment is utter BS, but it burnishes the image. I don't dislike him because of his politics, I dislike him because he's a liar and a political lounge act.

Gravatar Rhod,

Your options A) and B) give me hope that this law won't be the disaster I fear. Still, we shouldn't have to worry about this. I just don't get it.

It's similar to the "sky is falling" chorus who imagines all sorts of problems emanating from the Patriot Act. They, too, better hope no one gets killed as a result of their foolishness.

Re: McCain, you describe him in new and improved ways, as usual. And you point out how he knows that he has an unfair advantage in such debates because of his POW status coupled with an insecure political class in Washington. (All it would take is one of those tassled-loaferites to break out.) Yet, he stays silent and lets this unfair disadvantage hang in the air like the nastiest gas ever left in an elevator on a long, slow, 100-story trip.

Get my drift?

Gravatar DC:

I need a laugh just now, and you've provided it several times over. Thanks forever.

Gravatar If people die because of this, Bush will be blamed. Bush will be blamed for every Democratic and Republican disaster for the next decade, be it financial, political or military.

Gravatar Nickie:

Eventually people will die because of it. Since the population centers in danger are mostly Blue State, the irony is that the liberal ideas in these areas will result in disproportionate sufferring by Blue Staters and the large numbers of benighted, apolitical lower income groups there also.

This, I think, is a fact which can't be mentioned for PC or gloatworthy reasons. It's neither. It's simply true that the left lives in a fool's paradise, and has a very short memory.
