Gravatar In the case of the "disappeared," it seems that the effects of torture policy are extended to an entire populace. They are terrorized and put into submission. Thank God for organizations like the mothers of the disappeared who would not let them be forgotten. I think that Metz is powerful here. The dangerous memory of Jesus is also the dangerous memory of millions of faceless ones kept alive and subversive. The refusal to forget is powerful.

Gravatar "You do not exist."

It's a logical contradiction.

The whole concept of abuse is built on such contradictions.

By the way, Americans are unfamiliar with "torture", and, dumbed down like the country is, many would think torture of terrorists is okay -- there is some support for Jorge Bush on this.

Others are in denial that certain conduct constitutes "torture".

However, if you frame it as "abuse", Americans are more familiar with that term, and it more obviously applies to a broader range of inappropriate conduct. You might get more mileage out of that terminology.
