I am surprised you would post something that has already been proven to take Dr. Tapping out of context. For the record:

[...]

But I’m not a scientist. I just do basic research. And, when I noticed that the IBD never actually directly quoted Dr. Tapping, and only talked about him (all of the direct quotes come from R. Timothy Patterson, a fairly well-known AGW denier), I decided to do something that the “fine journalists” over at IBD couldn’t be bothered to do: I contacted Dr. Tapping directly and asked him about it. Dr. Tapping responds:

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the message. The stuff on the web came from a casual chat with someone who managed to misunderstand what I said and then put the result on the web, which is probably a big caution for me regarding the future.

It is true that the beginning of the next solar cycle is late, but not so late that we are getting worried, merely curious.

It is the opinion of scientists, including me, that global warming is a major issue, and that it might be too late to do anything about it already. If there is a cooling due to the solar activity cycle laying off for a bit, then the a period of solar cooling could be a much-needed respite giving us more time to attack the problem of greenhouse gases, with the caveat that if we do not, things will be far worse when things turn on again after a few decades. However, once again it is early days and we cannot at the moment conclude there is another minimum started.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Regards,

Ken

The term global warming gives a false sense that events directly or indirectly caused as a result are merely confined to "warming". However, if everyone were to put their thinking-caps on for a minute you would realize that this refers to an overall warming of the planet, not a warming everywhere, all the time. It is well documented that Global Warming will/has result in an increasing intensity of extreme weather, both warm and cold. Hence, snow in Saudi Arabia or warming of the Arctic region. Its not intellectually honest to post as if this were not the well understood reality, easily accessible with a click of your mouse.

Finally, its disingenuous to your argument to post discredited stories that have taken comments and points of views out of context (i.e. the Tapping article). I hope that you take the time to correct your post accordingly.

Gravatar Sean: If in fact what you posted here is truly from the source you say, then it is a wonderful example of politics within the establishment. He makes no denial that a major cooling could be coming, yet has no intent of upsetting the status quo. So in that, I must thank you for posting it, as it shows ass-covering at its best.

"Ken" has made sure to put himself squarely in the middle, as no matter what happens, he'll be right because he defers to others the AGW mantra (since it's not his field) yet can claim to have "seen it coming" if we are hit with a major cooling. Great position to be in.

By the way, I see nothing in the piece I post that takes what Ken said out of context.

The purpose of my posting it, if you'd follow this blog, is that "Ken" is just another source worldwide that is predicting major cooling over the next decades ... it's another one of the thousand cuts that when put together, are dismantling the AGW hoax. Ken doesn't even realize it, or if he does won't admit it; that he is part of the dismantling process. My point is also that Global Cooling could be many times worse than warming ... a kindergarten class could understand that.

As to the rest, if you'd spend some time on this blog you'd know immediately that I'm way ahead of you and your simple explanation of AGW, to say the least. I think all of us who are attacking the AGW hoax understood the basic concepts many years ago.

By the way, here's a little something on the "greenhouse" ... just for fun.

http://cjunk.blogspot.com/2008/ 0...greenhouse.html

As far as the record snow cover ... of course it's not a sign of long term global cooling ... but if it's not, neither is the summer of 1998 proof of long term global warming, nor this year's arctic ice loss. It works both ways Sean ... you can't pick and choose your natural events by how well they fit the mantra ... they've all got to be considered, "in context" with millions of years of geological history. Now, that's context.

Gravatar I love the standard AGW scare tactics in the first post by Sean:
"all of the direct quotes come from R. Timothy Patterson, a fairly well-known AGW denier"

Actually he is:
Dr. Tim Patterson, Professor of Earth Sciences, Carleton University,
Paleoclimatology specialization.

Of course Sean leaves all that off the post. Tim's just some guy right?

He's also a "Denier" the word association being Holocaust Denier therefore he's just some evil guy who doesn't know anything.

Gravatar Yep change the term Global Warming when it becomes a hard sell to Climate Change. Then you can try to blame any extreme weather on human activity. I still ain't buying.

Gravatar Sean has spent at least six years or more in university studying environmental science. His career is at stake. Evidently he didn't learn how to burst bubbles.

Gravatar If the science is settled, why does sean even need to study? its' all Done.

Gravatar actually Louise my education is in mine waste geochemistry....so I am not worried about being out of work anytime soon...and its been 9.5 years.

Gravatar C'mon kids. Anecdotal evidence is only acceptable if is supports AGW.

Anyone who disputes this is, well, a climate criminal, and must be brought to the Suzuki court for sentencing.

Meanwhile, let's merrily enact Kyoto so we can increase pollution and emissions, though China, India et al will do it, thus salving our consciences.

Sarcasm off

Gravatar Hmmm. The sun? Who would have thought of that?

Actually, the warmists have an explanation for all that snow - warmer air can carry more moisture than cold air therefore the record snow falls are yet another affirmation that AGW is happening.

They are, I'm afraid, having a bit more trouble with the growing Antarctic ice sheet and the coldest Southern Hemisphere winter in half a century and the fact 1998 was the warmest year in the last 10 and, ever since, temperatures have been going down, and the awful possibility that 50% of the temperature recording stations in the US are likely compromised by bad location....

This is a big, complicated topic and it is not settled. Which makes the rush to "do something" on the part of the politicos all the more dangerous.

Gravatar Jay: Did you ever notice that in climate science, an excuse can be had for just about anything. A monkey can come up with an excuse for these things because it's all so open ended. More snow could definately becaused by warmer air ... but it could also be caused by colder air where it usually never occurs. AGW science, being primarily a political beast, always leaves a back door open.

Gravatar Jay/Paul,
But it must be very difficult for the AGWists to see that the sun could have such effects, especially since the planet (exposed part thereof)seems to have a habit of warming up every morning when the sun 'gets out of bed', and the reverse occuring every evening when it goes 'back to bed'. ...such deep thinkers they must be. In any case it is becoming very obvious that 'global warming' is now causing global cooling and the Arctic ice to be back to 'normal coverage'.
