My first reaction to this is surprise. Surprise that a leftie actually blames the victim for bad choices. Usually the utopian left blames society and recruits victims to socialist solutions of CUPE welfare workers who in turn discourage the responsibility of the individual to take hold of their lot in life and to pull themselves up by the boot straps.

Just wait until you see what Tommy's "solutions" are.

Reading Tommy ( something I was told to do by my union mentors and NDP riding president), was a struggle for me. Much of his Thesis conflicted with what I knew to be human nature or wanted me to corrupt my civil principles. I was young and idealistic and susceptible to the evangelistic moralst dogma of both the unionists on my forst job and the Dippersnwho infiltrated the local....I stand before you reformed...a much wiser populist Libertarian of many years who escaped the hypocrisy of partisan Canadian socialism...but it took a lot of reading, life experience and an open mind...many will remain trapped in the dipper utopian box because their indoctrination was accepted as unquestioned social gospel and over time they build a denial defense mechanism to protect/justify their brainwashed dogma as each new reality appears to challenge or disprove the fallacious utopian vacancy of TC Douglas and the other modern fabian socialist demagogues he spawned in the dipper movement.
But, I digress...back to Trotskyite Tommy and his thesis of deconstruction of western society and the need to replace it with statist solutions which eliminate personal choice, individual freedom and civil identity.
Tommy was quick to acccept the 20s Menshevik-fabian socialist concept of graduated "street politik" deconstruction of the status quo Canadian political paradigms...to institute the role of government as a "keeper" and "shaper" of society as opposed to being the servant and instrument of democratic majority will...obviously Tommy felt that the majority were wrong most of the time and that the individual was incapable of knowing what was best for him...society was "dumb" and Tommy was a "teacher" who was there to train it and mould it in his image....Tommy was also was fond of the idea of a bureaucratic oligarchy ( central control) of "gifted philosopher-preists" who's moral self-righteousness and intent was beyond question...particularly as they have a divine right toi shape other people's existances for them...these central planners would over see the needed implimentation of Tommy's/Huxley's brave new world.
In short, Tommy was the walking antithesis of populism in his thinking and in his theories of government...yet he rode the populist bandwagon as the "lttle guy for the people" for all it was worth to get the yokel vote.
The sheer hypocrisy is too staggering to accept for most well read or rational people but today's dippers are caught up in the modern version of this government scripted utopianism and se nothign hypocritical in campaigning on "common man" populism but crafting policy that delivers elitist/authoratarian statism in government to acccomplish the utopian worker's paradise they promise....even though the evidence is everywhere from the disasterous BC Dipper kleptocrats to the civil and economc degeneracy of Saskatchewan's wheatfield Mensheviks to the disasterous anti-union insider corporate patronage government of Bo

....Of Bob Rae. The evidence is ample that Dippers do not practice what they "preach"...and that is linear with Ol Tommy's thinking and policy legacy.
Talk little guy populism from a moral perch as a campaign facade and deliver authoratrian kleptocracy where individualism in civil terms is denounced and the "little guy" is robbed of his property as is the robber baron.

The vitriol of Commie Douglas for "subnormals" and their purported responsibility for spreading venereal disease suggest that T. C. (Tommy the Commie) Douglas caught the clap when he had sex with a woman he considered an inferior. As a true Red, he blamed his problem on somebody else, not on his own risky and foolish behaviour.

I had the same conclusion. After reading the entire thesis - I have a copy - I came to the conclusion that Tommy was blaming women for all immorality. At one point he goes so far as suggest that good men are lead astray by immoral, subnormal women.
Tommy and Irma adopted a daughter in the 1940's. You never hear of her any more, only Shirley. I have often thought that maybe their adopted daughter was the result of an affair...
