Gravatar Does it hurt to be that selfish?

Gravatar The insults about selfishness really show how the "enlightened" are missing the point. Those of us turning on lights are not just "not playing along" but protesting against their protest. They want to raise "awareness" and "enhance solidarity" on climate change. I want to redirect their "awareness", passion, money spent, etc on real issues facing our planet, not Maurice Strong, Suzuki, and other "environmental" activist purses. Redirect your energies to proven issues with our planet. Personally, I'd much rather see all this emotional energy redirected to issues like women being stoned, gays being hung, children being aborted, oceans being polluted from cities dumping their waste, etc. Reduce energy but let your voice be heard for crimes to humanity and actual pollution rather than shaky CO2 nonsense. Don't assume because we protest your protest that we don't care and are selfish. Realize we care as much or more about real atrocities.

Gravatar Thanks Paul, you've added one more Christian to the list of people for whom I'll being going out of my way to ruin their Xmas season next year. After all, I don't believe in the baby Jesus, and apparently it's ok to just sh*t all over people when you don't believe what they do. Thanks again, you contemptuous dick!

Gravatar BTW, it matters not if you're Christian, I'll just pick someone at random, like all of you guys did with the anti-Earth-Hour crusade.

Gravatar Someone seems to think they have alot of power over other people. Odd...

Gravatar This event seems to have been a colossal failure. Yay!!!

Gravatar Lanny :+: :+: :+: :+: :+: :+: :+:
Bravo!!

Gravatar Good old "anon"!

Don't you just love folks who don't even have the testicular fortitude to post under a regular pen name?

Gravatar After all, I don't believe in the baby Jesus, and apparently it's ok to just sh*t all over people when you don't believe what they do. Thanks again, you contemptuous dick!

Well, at least there's one guy willing to admit his beliefs in Kyoto are really dogmatically religious in nature and not science. Too bad he then projects his own bigoted intolerance towards religion on to others' skepticism of climate science, and then equates there NON-PARTICIPATION with him actively defiling some poor schmuck's Christmas. And there we have the perfect example of why I don't like or trust "warmers".

Gravatar Oh, and by the way, my part for the hour: I had my large screen TV on, with its digital cable box; my PC on, with its three-way speaker system, listening to some lowly American country-western music; all my lights on. I'd just begun eating dinner, which had required me to use my oven broiler and my stovetop to prepare. Heater jacked up also.

I'd also emailed friends to participate in this effort. So, there's my bit to help melt an icecap and drown a polar bear. (And maybe even help enrage an Eco-Warrior, thereby causing him/her to drown in his/her own furious spittle at reading of our neanderthal efforts! :-)

Gravatar you must feel so proud.

Gravatar Saskboy,

Being selfish hurts a whole lot less than a lemming when it hits the bottom...

Gravatar So what does turning everything on to display your distain for those working towards helping the environment prove? It simply proves you are an ignorant redneck asshole.

Dave in Pa., does it matter what name you post under if your last name is missing? For the record, my name is Andy Cranfield, I live in Transcona in Winnipeg. Does that change anything?

Gravatar Andy,

Allow me... Turning off your lights for one hour proves nothing and accomplishes even less.

The movement to "offset" Earth hour was as symbolic as the idiotic Earth hour stunt itself.

Gravatar "you are an ignorant redneck asshole"
=======
No. I'm a Stubble Jumping Redneck asshole. Can't even get that right, can you.

Gravatar BTW, that reference to Paul as a "Christian" says it all, doesn't it. This is nothing but moonbat leftist repetitive group-speak. Christians=evil. AGW deniers=evil. Therefore, all Christians are AGW deniers and all AGW deniers are Christian. I guess logic is not taught in schools anymore. Or if it is, our annoying mouse friend dropped out before reaching that grade. In any case, their inability to understand simple logical equations makes their AGW argument a lot harder to pitch. They are their own worst enemies.

Gravatar Anon: What Christianity has to do with this ... I can't imagine; but it demonstrates that your thoughts are based on some pretty dark bigotries.

LipforLife: "asshole" is not an arguement, but I'm pleased to see that our counter protest did its job ... it smoked out the true bigots among us ... the liberal/left ecophobes.

Lipforlife/Saskboy/Anon: I trust that you will comply with at least 10 of the following ...

1. Live in as small an abode as possible
2. Bath or Shower only once a week
3. Have only one or two hot meals per week
4. Don't use Restaurants, coffee shops, or bars
5. No carbon emitting recreation
6. Drive an electric car (only if grid is Hydro or Nuke)
7. Car pool or use public transit only
8. Do not purchase imports (food, dry goods, hardware etc.)
9. Refuse to have children
10. Read only in the daytime or
11. Use only one fluorescent light at a time; live in the dark
12. Have no freezer or refrigerator
13. Ride a bike or walk
14. No vacation travel … ever
15. Don’t use electrical products (blow-dryers, shavers, toasters etc.)
16. Keep house temperatures at plus 10C in winter
17. No AC in the summer (home, car)
18. No powered yard equipment
19. No air travel … ever
20. Buy Carbon Credits and/or donate all surplus savings to Africa
21. Live in a Cave

... otherwise, you've posted here as little more than blathering busybodies with nothing better to do than moralize about that which you don't live up to yourselves.

Gravatar Yes, Paul. These folks are very good at moralizing, sanctimonious twits that they are.

Gravatar LOL!! Especially #9.

Gravatar Yikes - the believers are out today!!

For Saskboy, anony and the other followers, doesn't it just seem a little bit ironic that so much energy was used to advertise an event to save energy.

Call me a denier - I really could care less - I have lived through enough changing climate to realize that the climate changes.

Pay attention followers, use the heads on your shoulders and find out the FACTS - not the pablum that gets fed to you by those who want you to pay money. You might just realize that like the Nigerian money scam, you have been had.

Gravatar Mike, I'd ask you how it feels to hit bottom, but that would be rude.

"Those of us turning on lights are not just "not playing along" but protesting against their protest."
That's deep. Toe deep.

"doesn't it just seem a little bit ironic that so much energy was used to advertise an event to save energy. "
No. Because that didn't happen. It doesn't take MORE energy to advertise something on the TV or Internet, geeze. I realize some of you are doing/saying this just to frustrate/annoy people for attention, but if you're actually this dense and oppositional it's no wonder the world is in such a mess if you have anything to do with how it's run.

Gravatar "but if you're actually this dense and oppositional it's no wonder the world is in such a mess if you have anything to do with how it's run."

Isn't it surprising how intolerant the serial-protester crowd is of protest? That statement is almost exactly how I feel when the rent-a-crowd types protest anything remotely capitalist. Don't they know, are they so dense, that without our capitalist society they'd be living in yurts and hoping the tribal chief didn't decide they were infected by black magic? Still, I don't recall getting as worked up as these warmers over such a protest. These guys are thin-skinned, intolerant bigots.

Gravatar They are thin-skinned and intolerant because their beliefs are based on faith, not logic, so they must keep their emotional attachments to them high so can avoid thinking things through.

Gravatar Saskboy, I'm not sure what your "hit bottom" comment meant, but, sure..OK. Business has never been better, the Saskies are in power and I'm increasing the size of my carbon footprint substantially, and I couldn't be happier. Yup, hitting bottom never felt so good.

That being said, your sanctimony is impressive. I'm surprised you would spend any time at all here with all us unedumacated knuckle draggers.

"it's no wonder the world is in such a mess if you have anything to do with how it's run."

I suppose the same could be said about you, Saskboy. Thank goodness your not in that position, either.

Gravatar ".....it's no wonder the world is in such a mess...."

Yep its a real mess for us living in the modern western world. I dare say the only time we were WORSE off was, well, any and all points in history before this time.

Yep its brutal living here in Canada today. Wish I could go back to live like my parents in the 60s, or my grandparents in the 30s, or the WWI generation, or with the fops of the 1800s, those slackers had it real good. The only people who were better off then them was that damn Shakespearian generation, they just had no idea how easy they had it. So good, in fact, you could say they were living like Constontinian era Romans, lucky bastards.

My god, why is my world such a mess! Horror, horror!

Gravatar Con’t

I often wonder what its like, being a lefty, and having a sort of fearful, crushing psychosis believing that the world might end any day now.

Gravatar hehehehe

Take it easy on the boy. He's a youngun, and as each and every generation of younguns he thinks the older generation screwed things up. When he gets to older and more mature, he'll have to listen to the same stuff from the younguns of his day. That is, if he does grow up in ways other than just chronologically.

Gravatar Actually Mike, I am working on getting there; someone competent has to step up. And I meant moral bottom, as in selfish to the depths you've demonstrated yourself to be.

The Rat, capitalism is a kind of black magic, in the sense that what it generates comes will all kind of catches that people who turn their noses up at protesters, don't usually care to recognize. In a further effort to maintain their worldview of the 'perfection' of capitalism, they have to also attack the messengers - the protesters. And protesting and civil action is not just the domain of the anti-capitalists, it should also be part of every citizen's life. A protester is as much a citizen of Canada as someone serving in our armed forces, and both have my respect.

Gravatar I doubt you'll find someone who argues that Capitalism is a perfect system, even among the most devout Objectivists, for example.

You will, however, find a great many people who will argue that capitalism is by far the best system we've come up with. You will also find even more people who argue for it without saying a word. Those that were lucky enough to be born within the system, and enjoy the unprecedented opulence it provides. A classic example of this is of course the 'limousine liberal'. And finally, don’t forget those who voice their opinions with their feet, and choose to move to western countries like Canada and the US. The flow of immigrants to the west has basically always been a one-way movement. Whether its from poor third world countries, socialist havens, or communist ‘utopias’.

Gravatar "And I meant moral bottom, as in selfish to the depths you've demonstrated yourself to be."

Don't you think you're reading a bit too much into blog posts? Talk about moralizing... BTW, Rand thought being selfish was a virtue. I agree with that..

Let me guess, I'm on the right, so I hit the "moral bottom". So if you're on the left, you're... let me guess, morally superior?

Typical leftist... loves to self-aggrandize usually at the attempted expense of others.

Gravatar I don't consider selfishness a moral trait to aspire to, and that is why I said you've hit bottom. Also of course it was a play on your lemming reference.

--
"and enjoy the unprecedented opulence it provides."
And don't forget it will probably never be repeated too. Not exactly something to be proud of, to create an unsustainable system and exploit the benefits to the expense of everyone else. I also should note that "communism" is the only other option to capitalism. There is no doubt a better economic system available, and it's only blind arrogance to suggest that capitalism is the epitome of what we can attain as a human race.

Gravatar communism ISN'T (sorry for the typo).

Gravatar Freudian slip, Saskboy?

Gravatar "an unsustainable system"

Of course. We've heard it all before Saskboy. The world population will reach crushing levels by 2000. We will run out of oil by the 90's. We'll all succome to cancer when we loose the ozone layer. The invisible hand of capitalism is crushing the 3rd world. The latest is of course, global warming.

All the while, the world population is leveling off. We keep finding more oil. Walmarts 'sweatshops' offer what are in fact the most sought after and high paying jobs in the regions. The global warming concensus is being unravelled daily. Nearly universally, standards of living are climbing. And while the worst of the third world is at early western 20th century levels, it is undeniably climbing.

It would seem you've little faith in humanity.

So again, I am left wondering what its like, being a lefty, and having a sort of fearful, crushing psychosis believing that the world might end any day now.

Gravatar Saksboy, I am proud to have special plates on my car denoting "veteran". Sure, the standards are pretty low, I was only a reservist, but the point is to take pride in service. What service do protesters provide? Is one protest enough for you to "respect" them as mush as a soldier? Frankly, your comparison is offensive in a Western democracy. Here, protesters face no risk, no counter-violence, no state persecution, no matter how deluded, offensive, or disruptive the action. That you make the comparison shows only how unable you are to see concrete differences. Risk is just one of the differences. It demonstrates quite nicely why I don't really respect your opinion or your support for leftist values. In many ways I believe your support for Earth Day, global warming, and leftist causes in general only shows how terribly immature and narrow your own world view is. Most people grow up and realize that evil corporations are only the least bad alternative to what you propose, that soldiers aren't bloodthirsty jingoists, and people who protest everything usually need a general hygiene lesson (see Che Guevara, aka "Stinky")

Gravatar WOW! This is so stupid...
people who turned of their lights are just helping the environment for ONE HOUR! It isn't much to ask.... if you would like your grandchildren to drown under water because of Global Warming the CONGRATS! How Stupid are you guys!

Gravatar Sams: Turning out the lights had only one purpose. To "raise awareness of global warming". That's it ... period ... it was a protest that had nothing to do with "helping the environment". By they way, the "environment" isn't a person or animal ... you can't "help" it.

So, those of us who still think for ourselves, offered up a counter-protest ... the Hour of Power; The Ceremonial Banishment of the Snows; Human Achievement Hour ... whatever you want to call it.

Now you, being from the Left are cut from the protest and wailing class ... so it is indeed a delight to have vexed you so, to have caused you to launch into paroxysms of high dudgeon and anguish.

Clearly, our side one the "awareness" war. We are smiling ... you are fuming.

Gravatar Ummm... yea you can raise awwareness.. and you CAN help the Earth
