Gravatar There is no one, nor should there be, more deserving of the high pedestal than a good, devoted mother.

I clearly remember the day in my youth when I realized that all children are not equally blessed. A friend's mother, with six children, who was very casual to learn that one of her teenage daughters had not come home from her date the night before. She laughed it off as probably some kind of "prank" until she got a call later that morning from the hospital. The girl had been injured slightly in a car accident overnight, but had suffered nothing severe. The mother's reply was an expression of grief that the hospital bills would be coming... not that her daughter was found and to be ok.

The contrast in how my own mother would have reacted was very impacting. My mother would have known where I was. My mother would have been searching for me when I was late. And my mother would have been by my side when she found me in the hospital. She would not have hoped for the best. She would not have pacified herself with happy theories. She would not have slept until she found me.

It was an epiphany. Who knew? Caring is not obligatory, but an option!

My father always told me that the most important day of the year was Mother's Day, and to NEVER, EVER let that day pass without honoring my beloved mom. There was no such thing as an excuse when it came to her. In this I was to never allow myself to fail. And I never have.

My efforts at this blog have been sporadic and diminished due to more work and home duties than I have ever had on my plate at any other time in my life. But I did the mandatory remembrances for my beautiful mom.

Dena, I greatly appreciate this touching tribute to all the good moms... and to specifically call attention to our often forgotten military moms is beyond perfect. You are a truly great lady and consistently make me so proud to have you here.

One helluva job. Sincerely... thank you.

Gravatar WHAT a video..just beautiful, Miradena..a true gift to us all. SUCH an important message.
I'll add one more 'adage' for humor: "if it's not ONE thing, it's your MOTHER" (heh!)

Defiant said "I clearly remember the day in my youth when I realized that all children are not equally blessed"

That stunned me because I'd never heard anyone express it exactly like that and I CLEARLY remember when I came to that same realization and I'm embarrassed to say how old I was. I couldn't understand SO many things in normal life for SO many years because I thought ALL families were like mine, that ALL children were wanted, that ALL folks cared. I asked a friend "Oh, you have a brother? Where's he live?" She said "I don't know........."
I almost STILL can't fathom that.

Thank you both, you bless-ed people...it's a treasure trove at your blog. God bless you. xxx Z

Gravatar Absolutely beautiful, Miradena! Happy belated Mother's Day to you. Sorry for not being around more, but I've been truly swamped.

Gravatar Well said Miradena. Nice post.
