I really like this pick too. I had already relegated myself to a lack-luster McCain/Romney ticket. Then out of the blue comes this choice. There is nothing that gets a country boy's heart palpitating like a pretty gal that hunts. At first blush that hardly seems to be a substantive measure of a person's qualifications for political office, but it seems thus far to be panning out. Let's face it, all of us act on knee jerk first impressions. In fact every time I've ignored a bad initial impression of a person it's come back to bite me in the keester. So I've learned to listen to that little inner voice. I've done my own write up on her over on my blog and it seems that your analysis lines up with mine.
If everything that I've read about Gov. Palin is true, there is an iron will behind that pretty face. She will definitely shake things up, and give Biden a hard time in any debate.
She certainly seems to be lining up on every issue and is not afraid to say so, which is a whole lot better than anyone we had before the primaries. But like you, I'm wary. As you say:

Yes we have. Much as I like her, a good half of me is holding back to see if they really are going to 'let' a real Conservative into power.

So would I. The fact that they are trying to dig up dirt on her, and some are even making things up, is a sign that the liberals are running scared. This is all a good thing in my opinion. I can't wait for the debates to begin. How is Obama going to get through them without a teleprompter? 
I think the level of consternation generated over on the left over Palin is a sure sign that this was a good move.

Well, Aurora, we have been clamoring for a Conservative on the elephant ticket for quite some time... now we truly have one! If we don't elect this pair over the Obambam/Biden trash... we deserve what we allow. Now, more than ever, this is true.

Thanks for stopping by. Isn't she lovely? I cannot remember ever being so energized as a Republican. These last couple of years have been hard to watch. It just seemed easier to play solitaire than to read about the stupid decisions the Republican party was constantly making. Not anymore! Well, that might be a bit premature, but this pick is brilliant and Conservatives will now get out and vote. Many are thinking McCain won't seek reelection and we could have her in the White House by 2012.
Oh, I haven't blogged much over the summer, but now that I've posted on the subject, the libtard trolls are crawling out of the wood work at my place. So, if you stop in again, you might want to bring a can of Raid.
I really like your analysis here, DI. Palin truly did knock it out of the ball park! She did a tremendous job and I believe she did more than anyone else could have to unite to Republican party! I've been to hard left blogger's sites who have said until now that they would withhold their votes rather than vote for McCain. They are now going to vote! Who else could have done that?
I'm excited and I do trust her. She sold the jet and fired the cook! LOL! She is the real deal, DI.
I put on MSNBC first thing this morning and heard a 'panel' saying how Sarah is, basically, ALL style and NOTHING else. She's SO much more, as you capture here in your good piece; she's scaring them to death.
I'm not sure I feel firing the cook is good (It's ALL about FOOD for me, as most of you know!!!) but that jet on ebay's great!
And, one thing we all should also remember is that SHE HAD NO IDEA THIS VP THING WOULD HAPPEN! She (and Cindy mcCain) has done all the amazing things she's done because she felt they needed to be done, NOT because "it will look good during the campaign".
I hope Americans are seeing without the filter of the media. I'm just NOT sure...but I think they are!!

Hi Tammi... yes, she is lovely in so many ways beyond her obvious beauty. Everyone I know that is seriously Conservative has had their faith bolstered dramatically with her selection. Yes, the prospect of someone with real rightist values in the WH in '12 is something so fresh I could hardly even dream it a little over a week ago. Now, it might be a reality! Happy days!

Hi Z.... yes, those "all style" attacks are just what we could only pray they would do... Man, her record is going to destroy those claims. And then we get to play the video of their transparent whinings back at them, again and again. And reprint their words (for the literate amongst them... HA!). She has zippo to be "ashamed" of... and she knows that better than any of her opponents. What a position of strength to operate from. One they have never known, so they couldn't plan from that place, either.

Though we have always sought a candidate who is like us - but better! - those who are like us are too busy in their lives to run for office. They have jobs, families to raise, and so on. That's why politics have become almost the exclusive territory of lawyers.

She has really given us the chance to save TRUE Conservatism from ashes, Benning. She's the real deal, and I would not really tempt myself that she would be picked, especially by McCain, before it happened. Since, I have read about her history at great length. Amazing. Better than I ever knew earlier! This could be our Conservative president in 2012... and I am saying a prayer she will be.
