Gravatar They need to make that place a "knife free zone". That'd stop this kind of thing from happening...

It's disheartening to know that I live in an area where I can't legally carry a gun, and were I doing so illegally and stopped a psycho like this guy, I could go to jail.

Still waiting for that social pendulum to swing back to the right...

Gravatar Knife free zones are already being proposed in England. Soon they will be spoon feeding themselves meatless meat flavored broth from a government issued official spoon. Apparently the pendulum is quite long and sweeps a large arc. I hope that is what has increased the hang time. Shouldn't that hold true when it finally sweeps back to the side of common sense?

Gravatar To hell with that. I've already used my personal firearms on more than one occasion to protect me and mine and there's not a damned thing that could dissuade me from repeating those actions. God pity the fool that thinks he's found himself an easy victim behind my door. There's only one thing I have to say to any idiot that wishes to prevent my defense of my loved ones by disarming me... "ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ!"

Gravatar wow bro..tell us how ya REALLY feel..lol..great work..dramatic post..I think u may even convince Michael Moore..ha!

Gravatar I have been seriously thinking of getting a gun permit.Living where I live,it is needed. My husband has one by the bed,one in his car and one in his shop.

Gravatar Great post, DI. I don't so much as grocery shop without my little friend. To echo the sentiments of G-man, "God pity the fool" who thinks that a double stroller and a diaper bag make me a soft target... 'cause I won't.

Gravatar DI,
My state recently ruled that loaded firearms may be carried in all public buildings, including courthouses. But, I need help..you see as a pipesmoker, should I dare light up in a public building, I am subject to arrest under our tight no-smoking regs. Yeah, I know, the 2nd Amendment doesn't address Prince Albert in the can...

Gravatar Come take them indeed, G-Man. The more folks that exist like us, the larger that bothersome question in that next criminal mind as he cases the next potential home, office or individual... is there a sheep or a wolf inside???

Hi Angel... didn't mean to be dramatic and I'm downright disappointed to hear I came across as vague and unspecific again. I'll have to work harder on fixing that.

Hi FP! First, and foremost, I think the individual should be comfortable with their decision in this regard, and of course, seek education and training. You will probably not be surprised to find me wholeheartedly in agreement with you. If there is anything I can help you with for information, training or related please e-mail me any time.

Firearms owners in general tend to be responsible and eager to share their information and good habits with those who become interested in guns. It is hard to find a group of enthusiasts more rational and pleasant to spend time with.

Hi there Lass! GREAT to see you back up and writing!

I wouldn't have ever expected you to be a lady who would venture anywhere unarmed... anymore than I do. People who don't make these simple preparations for unforeseen, unprovoked trouble always seem to construe our precautions as "aggressive". Someone needs to explain to them the difference between that and "defensive"... unfortunately, it is usually a criminal who convinces them. That is, when they find themselves a surviving victim, by luck or grace of God.

Very nice to have you stop over!

Hi BB... excellent to find you also swung through!

Well, you know I applaud your state's firearm laws revisions, and I will predict that crime victim incidents will quickly show evidence of decline. Any irresponsible incidents that will occur, while I will also bet they will be very few, will still be illegal, too. People violating existing laws should be prosecuted just as before.

My grandfather smoked a pipe. I can well remember the wonderful aromas on cold, crisp mornings when I would help him do chores as a little kid. While I no longer use tobacco (for almost 30 years) I fully defend an individual's right to light up.

...But I'll bet you would have guessed that, too.

Best to you.

Gravatar The woman survived only because this off-duty cop saved her life by using his gun! Notice that the article also said people were running away. What? No heros out there? Several men wouldn't have been able to subdue this cretin thug even though he had a knife? What the hell is the matter with people? I can't imagine standing by or running away while someone was viciously stabbing somebody, even if that meant that I might get slashed, you've got to try! Pick up a manhole cover or something hard and slam it over the idiot's head! Actually, I carry enough junk in my purse to knock someone out with it, but I also carry a gun in it, so whether to use the purse or the gun would depend on the situation. I think in this case the gun is a great choice!

Good for this cop, but has it gotten to the point where some people can't tell the difference between television shows and reality?

Gravatar You're a gem, Gayle! You make me think back some 16 years to one of the all time greatest numb statements I heard coming from an all time numbest lady...

"It must be true... I saw it on TV..."

And while I would never expect you to ignore someone being accosted, it has become commonplace in our society. Remember the kids kneeling as commanded before being shot in the base of the skull, one at a time, in NYC recently and at the VT slayings? These sheep just give up and allow themselves to be sacrificed. Somewhere, deep in the brains of many, a sub-conscious note is made that this manner of reaction is somehow OK... and when found in such a predicament, they replicate the before seen behavior.

I cannot personally conceive of it!

There was a time when helping someone in trouble did not instantly bestow "hero" status... it was simply being a human being. We've dropped our standards to a level where what was once routine, essential and decent conduct is now "heroic". That leaves us with no one to do the truly difficult tasks and no one seeing it necessary or reasonable to consider such. (Please know I am not denigrating your use of the word here, Gayle!)

Thanks so much for your visit!

Gravatar you know it occurs to me that if we are to believe in the church of evolution and survival of the species is dependent upon survival of the fittest - think of who the fittest are in our society. by government diktat, the fittest are the thugs and criminals.

here in the state of misery (missouri)the state courts have recently ruled that if we are acting in self-defense, on our own property or elsewhere if we have a ccw, we cannot be prosecuted for shooting our assailant. gee, ya think???? i guarantee you that someone, soon, is going to say "well she used inappropriate force when she shot me in the balls when i was trying to rape her" and the whole argument will start all over again.

Gravatar Heidi, how is it that your wisdoms have managed to evade me until now? What a shining light you are! I applaud your clear vision and powerful words... thank you so much for your visit!

Gravatar You'll rarely be charged with a "gun charge" or weapons charge in NYC if you're a predator, but if you're an individual defending your home, your store or yourself, all bets are off.

A few years back, Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes filed gun charges against Ronald Dixon a black Navy vet who shot an intruder who entered his home and was heading into Dixon's young daughter's room.

Charges against Dixon were ultimately dropped because of a huge public outcry, but NYC takes "vigilante justice very seriously."

After Bernard Goetz fragged those five mopes, the NYC newspapers decried the sudden drop in subway crime in its wake!

I kid you not.

In reality, Goetz and Dixon are bigger problems to NYC's government than are the cretins who attacked them!

Without the criminal bogeyman, NYC's government might be called in for a trim by its electorate, so anything that keeps the people aware and afraid of violent crime is "good" for the folks in City Hall.

Gravatar jmk, what role (if any) did rudy play in this?

Gravatar Well, Heidianne, I believe Koch was the NYC Mayor during the Goetz incident (1983?), but Rudy, may well have been Mayor when Dixon was charged, although, I'm not sure about that...it could have been Bloomy.

But make no mistake, Rudy was extremely anti-gun/anti-self-defense.

When Colin Ferguson killed over 30 people on the LIRR in 1992or3, Rudy went right along with those nitwits who blamed "the availability of guns."

In fact, Colin Ferguson was an illegal alien?

So, why stress guns as a causal factor, over illegal immigration, or the fact that Ferguson probably should've been locked away in a mental hospital BEFORE the LIRR massacre.

If even one of those LIRR passengers had a gun, then Colin Ferguson may well have been bagged (body bagged) before he got too far along in his cowardly attack.

I'll go back and try and find some information about the Dixon indictment. Like I said, it may have been Bloomberg. I have a distorted sense of time - everything before 9/11 seems like a thousand years ago, like it was another life, everything since, seems like it was last month. I don't know why that is at this point.

But I'll look up the Dixon incident and get back to you.

Still, no matter what, Rudy has a very poor record on the 2nd Amendment and on the sacred RIGHT of violent self-defense.

A person stripped of the right to defend his property is reduced to being property.

I don't think Rudy gets that...or cares much either way.

Gravatar Whoops! "In fact, Colin Ferguson was an illegal alien?"

That QUESTION MARK doesn't belong there.

Colin Ferguson WAS an illegal alien.

Gravatar wow. thanks jmk - always nice to 'speak' to someone who's rational from nyc. i'm blogrolling you...

Gravatar Thanks Heidianne, I believe that the Dixon case occurred under Bloomber's watch, given this 2003 article. His first term began in January 2002.

Here's an article about the case;

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/ ful...751C0A9659C8B63

But Rudy was no bargain on gun rights either.
