This pisses me off to no end. I manage a n email list for a non-profit. Once a month (occasionally twice/month) I send out email to about 700 people.
When my ISP switched to a new server protocol, my account was disabled from sending email for 24 hours, because the ISP had re-set their "spam" flag to 75 emails/hour, rather than the previous 100/15 minutes.
The list is ENTIRELY opt-in. The only way you could possibly get on the email list is to hand-sign, in person, an email list at the non-profit.
I have purchased expensive software that allows me to pre-set the mail-out rate (I had it set to send 99 emails every 15 minutes, in order to meet my ISPs limits).
I was on the phone for 50 minutes with a tech who tried to verify the ACTUAL new limit (he told me to send no more than 75/hour to be on the safe side), but NEVER ACTUALLY GOT AN ANSWER as to what the limits were.
I hate it I hate it I hate it.
