Gravatar Broadcast television is looking at outsourced master control operation, outsourced graphics production, outsourced webmaster positions, and outsourced Human Resources. The last two popped up in the past two weeks. The executives at the top are trying to hold onto revenue expectations that they've lived off of for 30 years. I frankly believe America needs a painful re-distrubution of wealth; I'm not holding my breath though. No one wants to cap wages because we have this dream that one day "we'll" achieve 6-figure saleries. One day every nation on earth will define a "living wage" that is fair and equitable. I just hope it's in my lifetime.

Gravatar Yup, I hear ya. Rotoscoping used to be considered the entry level position to start in VFX but where will one start now when post companies are outsourcing to China and India.

And the living wage that was getting paid has been decreased as they are used to the cheaper wages being charged overseas.

If all the jobs get outsourced then what are we going to live on or purchase these companies products with?

Gravatar It's sad but true that, these days, all people care about is the bottom line. If it saved money to have visual effects created by a team of trained penguins in Antarctica, somebody would do it. As long as other countries are willing to do jobs for less pay, the outsourcing trend will continue. Not sure anyone can fix that, short of banning outsourcing, which I don't think would be politically or financially popular. Wal-Mart alone would lose millions of they did that. I think the real solution would be to take a good, long look at this country's economic model. The old philosophy of "buy American" just doesn't work anymore in a global economy when "buying American" would mean higher prices for the manufacturer and the customer. I don't know what the solution is, but I'm sure somebody else does.
