DELAWARE WATCH

This is great news.

To be fair to WILM and the Hawkins family: until it was sold to Kleer Channel, WILM was a pretty damn good "hard news" station with rather diverse voices in the evening talk programs, like Harmon Carey and Charles Brittingham.

The only thing I could have done without was Mike Gallagher, who was like a real ugly pimple on an otherwise good face.

Now that WILM has been Clearchanneled, the station is a shell of its former self.

Gravatar Yes, WDEL is getting better and WILM is getting worse.

Truth is, most communities dont have any good radio news any more. All they have is what WILM is becoming.....

am

Gravatar If that is true, Alan, then it is all the more important for groups like Common Cause to lead the fight to preserve community "media character" and the promote the lawful right to have the airwave programming that, at least in part, serves the community's interests.

Gravatar Loudell ran WILM into the ground, not Clear Channel. Loudell introduced right wing bias, not Clear Channel.
Loudell ignored Delaware to get his jollies making third world phone calls.
Loudell paid his workers substandard wages and allowed environmentally unsafe working conditions.
Loudell is not in charge at WDEL.
Chris Carl built the news department and he runs it. Loudell will read news and make more of his phone calls to talk about obscure topics like butterflies.
And Loudell has displaced a disabled person.
You people cheer for this bas*d and you call yourselves liberals!?!

Gravatar Loudell is the most overrated Delaware radio personality of all-time. He ruins his broadcasting talent with his 'know it all' mentality that, under careful listening, shows more cracks than the San Andreas Fault.

Have a conversation with him - then tell me how great he is.

Gravatar I'm beginning to believe there is a Clear Channel campaign to pooh-pooh Loudell because they are frightened that WDEL is now gathering a line-up that will kick their butts in the ratings. They should be worried about that because WILM’s new lineup is too rightwing and reactionary for Delaware. Delaware’s conservatives aren’t mostly moral majority types; nor do they believe that the free-trade refugees from Mexico are a priori vile human beings. Delaware conservatives tend to be conservative about economic matters and mostly moderate about social ones. That’s why the WILM lineup of Rush, Gallagher and Savage are doomed to fail in DE. WILM is rapidly becoming irrelevant.

In this regard, I have no way of knowing if Franklin's allegations about Loudell are true. Without any evidence, they are merely allegations. Also, Franklin's use of a pseudonym here doesn't lend any credibility to his very specific allegations about Loudell. How can we tell if Franklin is any position to know if his allegations are true?

Yes, Loudell is more conservative than me. But that means little since nearly everything that draws a breath is to the right of me. But I cannot deny that Loudell’s interviews are first-rate. I’ve heard none better anywhere. Perhaps that reflects some sort of egomania on his part. I doubt it but it could be true. The point is FROM WHERE I SIT AS A LISTENER his ego is great. And my considered opinion is that WILM would do well to find another narcissist like Loudell.

Gravatar Are you people serious??? Loudell a conservative?!?! The guy idolizes Lenin & Stalin for pete's sake. If you look up "Socialist" in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of Allan.
Like Loudell or not, he is distinctive broadcaster. He's very intelligent, unfortunately, he lets you know it. One thing is for sure, no one else is like him. From what I'm hearing, his "Live Lines" at WDEL have been more local in focus than they were at WILM. I'm sure that's because DEL won't pay the long distance phone bill. Not that ILM always paid the bill in full, but I digress.
In closing, all of you "DelaLiberals" need to get lives. There is life outside the Worst State. Go get a job and something real to worry about.
In closing, "Franklin", Loudell didn't pay the substandard wages or create the unsafe environmental working conditions. The Hawkins family did, and guess what, they never had a problem filling an opening. They paid what people would work for. You can't blame them for that.
