Funny how sane the craaaaaazy outsider sounds when you ask a couple straightforward questions and let him speak for himself.
Of course Ryan at JTTR and Celia Cohen could probably find some word choices and phrases to take out of context and make a story out of.

From Celia's Sour Grapevine -
"Pete du Pont, who nervously survived the Watergate election to win his third House term, agreed that 2006 had the same feel to it as 1974. "Absolutely it does. I think it's worse than '74, unless the Republican Party gets off its butt," he said."
OMG, You have to be kidding me. This guy has never gotten off of his ass to do anything more than prop up the latest loser to be trotted out by his very own flunkies running the Del. GOP. He is lecturing other Republicans????
This guy NEVER EVER helps local candidates and has been a shameless George Bush (H.W. and W.) crony since the old days.
It would not surprise me one bit if he and his relative, little Chuckie Copeland, have been engineering these statewide electoral disasters to make sure the path is nice and clear for Senator "I have a perm" Copeland-Dupont. Wouldn't want anyone to show up wonder boy by winning an election ahead of his pending anointment.
We'll get off of our butts, Mr. 'Joe Six-pack' Dupont, the first moment you get off yours, realize your 20+ year old coattails are vapor, and stay the hell out of our way.
Ugh I have no respect or patience left for this fossil.

Noticed that, did ya? LOL!
Yes, it must be a standard gimmick w/ the party hacks in DE. Say that the outcast is crazy, spread the lie far & wide, until it becomes an assumed fact. How many times do you guess you have been called crazy by these clowns, Jason? I'm guess 30-40 times for myself.
How about that business of Protack supposedly seeking the chairmanship? 2 of Lee's people come to him about and, presto!, the story becomes he sought the position. What a curious alchemy.
And the vice chairperson position--so Protack shows some interest because, as Cohen indicates, the position was open or soon to be open. Protack shows a little interest, manifests a little ambition, and suddenly for Republicans, mind you, ambition becomes a vice!
I'll tell ya, you just couldn't make this stuff up.
Every decent Republican in Delaware should be made as hell that their party is in the hands of hooligans.

I never understood the fasination w/ Pete. Although I will give him this: he once gave a presnrtation at my daughter's college and said something that made my daughter angry and which involved some factual errors. My daughter spoke up (cancel the blood test -she's mine). Immediately after he got done talking, he walked past all the dignitaries waitng to shake his hand and walked up to my daughter and said something to the effect, "You gave me a lot to think about tonight. I'm going to think about it some more, but I might just have to change my position."
I think that took a lot of class.

My God, I agree with Dana. Except the part where he thinks Protack has a clue.

It's remarkable that anyone believes that the Delaware GOP - which has proven they have trouble managing elections, can get their shit together enough to credibly blackball one man. You can either believe just about everyone who've had dealings with Protack, or you can believe Protack. I'll go with the numbers.

You so quickly deny that he sought the position, based solely on his word, even though there is at least one published report that says that he did?
Why are you so quick to take this man's side?

Celia's reports are garbage and her GOP 'sources' are one person - her buddy Priscilla Rakestraw. Old Prissy is not exactly a balanced or even a credible source. She is a rumor and gossip monger who will lie through her teeth to smear anyone in the way of her masters.
I bet Celia never even bothered calling Protack himself to ask about it. Any reasonable person should question unnamed sources like Celia uses when they completely contradict the vigrous, repeated denials of the person they accuse.
For all we know Celia could have simply made this stuff up after eavesdropping on scuttlebutt at a GOP function. Who's to say otherwise with her 'unnamed' sources?
Personally I talked to Protack to ask him about it when it was just an unpublished rumor. He was pretty disgusted about it and denied it up and down. Again this was BEFORE it was published.
I still think Protack is out to lunch on this issues and with his perpetual candidacies. But that doesn't exonerate the dirty tricks and bullshit of these scumbags running our state party. He is not a special case either. They will do it to anyone.

Prove it. Post the letter somewhere.

She is the big and often times only source for lots of reporters. The rule of thumb is if you don't get it from prissy, you won't get anything from the republican party. But what are they getting from her? That is the real question.

Good afternoon everyone.
A few quick thoughts. I respect Pete DuPont for his 2 terms as Governor but Delaware has indeed changed since my youth and Republicans are missing some great opportunities to win elections. As it exists we are getting killed by an average of 16% every time.
Let me talk about perpetual candidacies. It took Reagan three tries to get to the Oval Office, Newt Gingrich three tries to get to the U S House and Zell Miller was washed up years ago and bounced back. That label doesn't bother me at all. In fact a good friend Mike Ramone has lost three times, (a GOP primary for Representative, general election against Coons and general election against Sokola) yet he is back at it again this year with party blessing. I hope he wins and I will do all I can to help him.
I think anyone who reads Delaware Grapevine has way too much time on their hands. Personally, I would rather talk to my Mother in Law than go to that site. Rumor and false allegations that dominate the site are minor things when you have lost your pension, taken a 41% pay cut, had parents die in the last two years and had a family member with cancer like I have had. Grapevine if it was a paper would be great fish wrapper.
Anyway,have a great day.

Press Release: For Immediate Release
Poll Shows Protack Has Strong Support Among Republican Voters
A random sampling of registered Delaware voters that noted they were likely to vote in the upcoming election was conducted by telephone by NSON Opinion Research on April 24 and 25, 2006 and shows Mike Protack with a commanding lead over Jan Ting.
The poll of 2056 voters was conducted on two separate evenings and the respondents were asked, “If the Republican Primary were held today, who would you support?”
Of the voters who had an opinion, 440 people selected Mike Protack and 106 people selected Jan Ting.
The survey has a +- margin of error of 6%, with a 85% confidence level for “likely Republican voters” for the state of Delaware.

I am not a Protack supporter for a few reasons; perhaps most of all is his social predisposition. I am a huge supporter of Ting because I was invited to a luncheon several months ago and since then I have seen Ting probably a dozen times and to this day he still knows who I am. He has approached me, on his own. And we have had conversations about things other than politics. His platform is clear and he has the education and experience to back up what he says. So far Mike Protack has not approached me, has not even said hi to me, though we have been at many of the same events. I get all kinds of mailings from him that talk about how he is such a great guy, And I still DON’T know all of his plans. In fact I didn’t know any of them until someone on here said something about healthcare. I am not interested in going to his website, I want him to mail me his platform not mail me letters from his family saying “oh he’s so great!” you can be the greatest person in the world and fail in business. I am actually only on here because of the whole College Republican issue. I decided I should read what has happened before I say anything. The reason Protack received less than 40% of the Republican Convention vote is because he shuts others out. He comes off to most, as I found at the convention, to be a very closed person, and always has been. I don’t want to know his life story but he needs to be a little more friendly and involved all the time if he wants to run on our ticket. I am not questioning his support of the party only that I have rarely seen him and then when I did/do it is only recently. I would hope that he sees his push for a primary as a loss to the party, just like he did to the Honorable Judge Lee. With resourced allocated to battle Protack, Ting will have an enormous task ahead to defeat Carper. If Protack goes on the attack, all Carper has to do is sit back and watch. Alas, another race will be lost because Protack wants to be in office, it was once said to me that: men in office only because of its power are dangerous, and men who seek it for the same reason are just as perilous.
