DELAWARE WATCH

Gravatar Regarding the article entitled "Health Insurers Con Billions of Dollars from their Customers" posted on 6-25-09 - Great Work!! But, how sad for US, the common, honest, every-day people of this once great Country... notice, past tense. I hate to admit it, but this Country is sinking f-a-s-t, and the CORRUPTION and GREED of the VAST MAJORITY of ALL LEVELS of our ELECTED OFFICIALS is the reason WHY. I am PERSONALLY so t-i-r-e-d of getting screwed-over by ALL of them - private sector, Government-run, it doesn't seem to matter a damned bit anymore!! ETHICS, INTEGRITY, and HONESTY NO LONGER EXIST IN THIS COUNTRY. This much is TRUE. Am I jaded? Cynical? You bet! Unfortunately for me, I have MANY valid, documented reasons that prove why I have been forced to become this way. It is seriously FRIGHTENING to live in the good ol' USA nowadays. WE are THEIR PLAYTHINGS. If any ONE of "THEM" needs a scapegoat for Lord-only-knows what, or just wants some extra fun-money --- watch out! YOU just might be next on "their" SCAPEGOAT List. Believe me. I know from experience. May God Bless and watch over ALL courageous Whistleblowers! Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden... those places are on my "MOVE TO" list. Seriously.

Gravatar It is the government which as dropped the ball.

Gravatar Fraud is rampant in the insurance industry and in Big pharma. Why are we paying 300% for drugs you can purchase in Canada for l/10 of that amount? Fraud is rampant in hospitals who throw away and waste resources which they can bill doubly to medicare and medicaid. If the Delaware legislature and this governor cannot get single payer past in this state, Jack Markell needs to be a one time Guvnor. He has all the answers he needs but has refused to hold any discussion on the issue. Meanwhile our Ecomomic Development office is spending time with a group of film people overselling and exaggerating the numbers of jobs they will create.

Gravatar Today I did something about fraud in the health care system. I went to a dermatologist to remove a couple of funny looking moles. She said, "medicare doesnt pay for this". Ok, I said, I am concerned about skin cancer as my brother had it. The doctor found 4 that should be removed. She said it will cost you $400 for everything to remove them. I said, "ok, I will have to pay out of pocket, expecting she would surgerically remover them". Nope, she came back with an aerosol can and sprayed them. All of 5 minutes to completion. I paid $400 out of pocket.

Today I received a bill from Medicare. The doctor had filed a bill with Medicare (for a serice I had paid for completely out of pocket). The Doctor wanted even more money from me. I called the office and was told we billed medicare for your doctor visit. I said, why I paid the entire bill in cash and have a receipt.

PS. Called medicare fraud unit in DC. After speaking with 5 different people who informed me the doctor did not tell them I had paid in cash, I was told to call the Doctor and get an itemized bill. I said, that is what you should do you are the investigators. It was apparent after speaking to all 5 of these bureaurcrats they would do nothing about the attempt to defraud.

This is exactly what is wrong with our system. Medicare or Medicaid do not require the treating doctor to inform them of any of your OUT OF POCKET bills, so they can invoice resulting in double payments. I am going to stick with this fraud unit until I know they have investigated.

This happens every day and no one is watching. There are no standards for dermatologists and others who are not family physcians or medical doctors. My primary doctor told me Medicare pays for $90 for a visit regardless of how much time she spends with me, while dermatologists and others can bill for upwards of $200 a visit and not have to verify their treatment.

Fraud is rampant, both Senators/Congress/obama know its rampant and yet, they have not discussed any provision for reigning in these greedy doctors who can charge whatever they want. Most elderly never question their bills, which is why Medicare is going to go bankrupt. We need a public option and it must be single payer which does have standards and price controls built into the system. The fraud is in all that paperwork no one has the time or inclination to investigate.
