Not in many years has a party been so well lined up for a landslide victory in a general election. Yet somehow McCain is right with both Dems in all of the national polls (even with the HUGE ISSUE of his anger on everyone's minds). Dems had this election handed to them on a silver platter and they are still managing to screw it up!
God bless you Howard Dean and the DNC!

Dana,
I'll bet you failed Math.
What is this?
[((Bush = Iraq war) = John McCain) = Republican Party]
It doesn't look like Arithemetic, Algebra, Geometry, Logic, Calculus, Statistics, Physics or Mechanics.
I entered it into my TI-84 and it says "ERROR".
However, I am sure you have a BS in something...

Your problem Paul is that you are so rigidly literal-minded. Look up the word metaphor, memorize it, and then get back to me for your next lesson in Figures of Speech 101.

"Yet somehow McCain is right with both Dems in all of the national polls...."
Actually, you are looking at this backwards. The real question is w/ Hillary & Obama firing at each other endlessly and the press monomanically focusing on them, why is McCain only able to break even w/ them? Why isn't he far ahead?
When the Dems decide on their nominee and McCain's record and habits get focused on, his ratings will head for the toilet just like his political soulmate George Bush's numbers.

I like and Teach Math.
There is a REASON.
IN Math 1 + 1 = 2, ALWAYS.
Now with Language, you have Hyperbole, sarcasm, irony, and on and on...
Deciding what people means is confusing.
Many times people use certain language constructs on purpose to be elusive.
Like saying that some one used NAZI tactics, does not mean that that person IS a Nazi, but it sure lets the reader envision that person as a Nazi or a nazi sympathizer, or at least as a person who would use other Nazi techniques or tactics...
[ After reading your posts, I am sure you yourself are familiar with the Tactics of Joseph Goebbels. BUT here let me be very clear, I am not associating you with their hatred, bigotry or their genocide. I am commenting on YOUR use of the same MEANS to reach your ENDS. ]
No, it did not state that the person was a Nazi, It just created the illusion and the association in the readers mind.
Dana, Your problem is just the opposite of mine. I would like to know precisely what people mean. You on the other hand are reckless with your accusations and your application of associating facts, and yet you still want to remain elusive.
=====
Math is the PERFECT metaphor. Math describes the real world in the abstraction of applying a means to measure and calculate natural phenomenon. What is missing is the obfuscation.
Logic belongs to Math, NOT in language arts. In language, the constructions allow for DECEPTION.

Paul, you have hang ups. You are not concerned about precision; you are concerned about being the one who decides how discourse can proceed so you can CONTROL the conversation and its outcome. Your so-called "precision" is the fruit of psychological rigidity and obsessivenesses.
It's impossible to argue w/ monomaniacs. See a shrink.

Your obsession with the deception and inaccuracies of language has been exposed. Your own counter preference for imprecision belies your reckless regard for the truth and for logic.
Hyperbole, sarcasm and snark might be fun, but it detracts from resolving issues, on the blogs and in important venues.
There is nothing wrong with expecting accurate statements and the truth. That is not a hangup. But I can see where it is hard to argue with facts and truth.
Monomaniac, ?? I've never had Mono. LOL
Have your shrink call my shrink!

You know what, Paul? Since you're often the only one who doesn't get it, the problem is yours. NObody owes you extra explanations just because you have comprehension problems.

Seems to me that the problem is
people who want to influence people. They use interesting language constructs, emotions and deception.
They do not like to be challenged on the merits of their arguments. They do not like it when someone questions their hyperbole and reckless inferences.
You might believe that you said what you meant so that everyone understands clearly. You have no right to say that those who do not understand what you said must somehow be deficient.
All dialog is a two way process, message sent and message received.
I challenged the message that was sent.
I have no problem questioning what people mean when they make statements.
When I question what people say and mean, does not imply that I have a comprehension problem.
It is for the others who read these blogs, to do a validity check, and not just drink the Kool-Aid.
Do you have any problem comprehending what I just said? LOL
