100,000 People!!!!

Gravatar Good morning Denny. If you had to have something than maybe a fine would be OK but a misdermeanor too. I think this is insanity at it's best. You can not force a parant to care. Just because they show does not mean anything.

Oh well, I am with you all the way with the IQ test. Luckily most bills that are introduced probably die without ever seeing the light of day. Surely this one will meat the same fate.

New law, if a legislator makes a frivalous bill then they owe the state/US stae and/or national fines and take away their license to practice politics. What, they don't have a license? Darn, I thought we had something.

Gravatar barman, I'm with ya 100%. I am amazed they didn't tack on jail time also.

Gravatar Morning Denny,
if a parent doesnt care then all the show up in school wont help, IMHO. What are they going to do if the parents dont have 500 bucks, throw them in jail instead? Ridiculous.

Gravatar Good morning, Denny!

Are you trying to give me an embolism first thing today? And on a FRIDAY too????

ARGH!!!!!

Gravatar Morning Mone!
I agree... it's crazy!

Gravatar Now anonymous... how could I give you an embolism when I don't know who you are?

Gravatar Morning Denny,
No, it's not just you. State edcation officials or local school districts would be responsible for definging "reasonable". Bwaa haaa haaaa

Gravatar Oregon had a state law at one point that if a kid was truant from school that the parents were going to get fined if not thrown in the Greybar Hotel too. Not sure how that's coming along but they're holding the parents responsible for their kids being absolute monsters. *shrugs*

Glad I have snakes,
DA

Gravatar Yeah, that ought to work. I guess all other crimes have been solved, huh?

Gravatar Honestly what will they think of next? I think its all about money myself....sure they want the parents to be involved but charging a $500. fine is a little over board. Thats why I think its all about money. Have they ever thought about saying if you cant show up for your appointment then your kid cant come to school for oh say 2 weeks. Now while I realise that this will only hurt the child more than the parents if the parents work and now need to find someone to care for their kid because they couldnt take the time to show up then maybe it would be worth it to not let the child come to school. Understand? Then maybe they would make it a point to get to those appointments.

Gravatar That would be a fairly hard law to uphold, I think, considering that a large number of parents are divorced, and some aren't active participants in their kids schooling.

For instance, which parent would be responsible for attending? And if the mother couldn't make the meeting and the dad didn't go, would she get fined because she has custody? Can she add the fine to her child support claim that month? If she goes to jail, does custody revert to the father until she's served her term? What if he lives in another school district? Can the Family Law Court System sustain this, or would it totally crumble from chaos? (My personal guess is the latter)

A can of worms, I tell ya! And I don't even have kids, lol!!

Gravatar Well, since they don't issue licenses for parenting I guess they have to do something to get the incompetent parents off the streets.

One of the biggest problems with schools is the fact that parents drop their kids off in the morning and expect the schools to care for and raise their kids until they pick them up.

Once parents realize that schooling involves the teacher, the student AND the parents, the schools will be a better place and hopefully create a better caliber of graduate who will go on to become law makers who have an IQ.

Gravatar This is legislative myopia at its finest. Once again we are trying to legislate the non-governable qualities of human behavior. Our police department used to place emphasis on writing tickets for drivers not having insurance. Of course most of the people that did not have insurance didn't have it because they couldn't afford it. So we wrote them tickets with fines to make them poorer in order to force them to get insurance. ???
This one smells of the same philosophy; that is attacking the wrong target.
Long live the small government movement.
