Oh believe me, the people that collect for hospitals can drive you crazy!!!
We have insurance...so usually, we only pay a co-pay. Last time The PK was in the hospital for a few days, they sent up someone to collect $800.00 from him (which of course he didn't have on him)...so they wanted at least $400.00 (again, which he didn't have on him)...so then they wanted a credit card (he was in a friggin' hospital gown with his ass hanging out...what made them think he had a friggin' wallet on him???)
He called me at work and told me they were trying to collect all this money...so I told him "Tell them to come back around 5:30 this afternoon when I'm there...and tell them to bring a statement of the charges. I want to see why my insurance isn't paying the bill!"
I went that afternoon and waited for the guy to come back. And I waited....and I waited.....and I waited. He never came back....and we never got another bill. I tell you what, they'll squeeze every damn dime out of you they can...if they could've gotten that $800.00 from us, we'd have never seen it again...because I can almost guarantee you they never would've reimbursed us.
Whooo...sorry I ran on like that...but between The PK and my Peanut Mom, believe me...I KNOW how frustrating dealing with hospitals can be.

I understand the frustration about the hospitals and the bills. I had a cat scan that I owed on. I tried to convince them they were wrong. Every time I caught them and went after things again, they changed their story and went a different route. After a while they were real asses about it and I am not sure if it ever was resolved.
I know, what do you know about looking at medical billing, but if there is anything that was totally no covered in the 80%, perhaps that can be submitted to the VA. Then they can not say they will not pay twice.
I think you need to get your doctor to write a note that says you can not deal with the morons any more as that is bad for your health and what caused the last two strokes. What do you think, it might work.

I'd talk to a different branch of the VA. Go up their chain of command until you get the answers you need.

When it comes to hospital bills I am not your girl. I once got so frustrated with the whole thing I offered to give the billing guy a bj just to "forget" the bill all-together.
And yes, I ended up PAYING the bill- with money.

Denny: Is there anyone you trust who can aggressively grab the bills and go to the VA and make your case for you to the Chief of Surgery at the Hospital or someone in a role of some sway or authority?
