I learned long before I even moved to Southwest Florida, not to store stuff you care about in the garage. It's fuckin hot in there. When we cleaned out the garage of my late M-in-law, we found lots of sealed can good that were empty. The stuff inside must have incinerated into a gaseous state. I hope Mort's chemicals turn into harmless gasses and not some new form of nuke.
The collecting thing is tempting but i resist it in favor of music equipment I can actually use on a regular basis. If I haven't used it in a year, I e-bay it. Want a harmonizer? Other loved ones, however, will sometimes give me a series of things that they think i collect. I only collect them because they keep giving them to me. Little e nuns, for instance form my ex-students. All that talk about Sr. Mary Confusing, I guess. My daughter heard once from her mother, my ex, that i liked giraffes. Consequently, I have way too many in various sizes and styles. And of your collections a result of somebody else's view of you?

oh man... reading your article made me laugh... Many years ago my ex-wife and I were visiting my parents. We were sitting in the kitchen and I can't remember now what we were talking about but I said: I wish I had a hand-grenade to toss over there. My father disappeared into the cellar. About a half hour later he returns... wanna guess what he had in his hand?? Yes, a hand grenade from WW2. I nearly fell off my chair laughing. He saved it as a souvineer... gez. lol

Sev: And iits all MINE MINE MINE! (hee hee hee!)
Kitty: Oh please post them! I would love to see what other people collect!
Bud: I hope Mort isn't fertalizing nukes in there! YIKES! Aw...little giraffes are SO cute! (LOL)
Maybe I should hit some of your Ebay auctions! You got any old pink boss delay pedals laying around? (DD2)
As far as other people giving me stuff for my collection, SURE, I TAKE DONATIONS...but my strange taste in collectables is my own doing!
Rachelle: Floaty pens are great because they are small, cheap, and always give you an excuse to go junk shopping on vacation!
Denny: OMG. A GRANADE? So far, my dad hasn't pulled out anything quite as dangerous as that...unless you consider some fo the "liquors" he has stored in there!
Mrs. Mogul: Hey, those goodies are great. Don't you know that a Trump Tshirt is, like, the HEIGHT of fashion these days in SOHO? xo

I agree with your sentiments! I love your pen collection! LMAO
I have a HUGE pen collection. Folks at work would make fun of me because I had so many in my office. They have never seen the entire collection! My obsessions? Sharpies and Gel pens, specifically purple and green on the gels. LOL
I also collect tea pots. I have some from all over the world.
Another collection of mine is shot glasses. I also have them from all over. Everytime someone I know goes on vacation in a place I've not recieved a shot glass for, I beg for them to bring me one!
My glass from the furthest away is NZ. That was the beginning of them for me!

Mr. L: That is lucky for me. I'm sure you'll have to collect ALL of the Last Girl catalog!
I DON'T have a Robyn Hitchcock floaty pen yet. I'm playing with him here in NY on March 25th. I should get in touch with him now and ask him for one. Thanks for the reminder!
Charlie: I except all floaty pen donations. Good luck!
Jade: I wish I'd known you last summer! I would have brought you back shot glasses from my world travels! I think we are DEFINITELY kindred spirits, girlfriend!
Brighten: It certainly is a disease. (especially if you talk to my mom about it! LOL)
Lois: Sometimes you don't realize what you are collecting until it's too late... then you couldn't POSSIBLY get rid of any of it... BECAUSE IT'S YOUR COLLECTION, FOR FUCK'S SAKE! (lol)

My garage is my place of refuge.
I collect tools...lots of them. I have tools that I'm not sure what their purpose is.
Recording equipment:
I dream of turning my garage into a project studio...Mrs. Muzikdude would love to have her bedroom back...but then where would I put all the tools?

I love your collections! But, what exactly is a floaty pen?
ANd hey, I have those Beatle "action figures," too! Too funny. I have them displayed in the basement (family room) with framed Beatle albums (ancient round, black vinyl things we used to spin in circles at about 33 1/3 rpm to listen to music.)

Nat: Gotta go to the link, and follow the link there under floaty pens! Hey...you of all people should know what those are!
Strange minds think alike! But do you have the Brady Bunch action figures? Since that picture was taken, I was given Alice the Maid and Janet, the annoying kid! (I'll loan them to you if you're envious!)

This one is noteworthy because of the description "Also, the pen tip likes to get stuck in the up position." Uh Huh. A nudie pen is "stuck" in the up position. Hmmmmm. Wonder what causes that?

I used to be a big "collector," and then all of a sudden I took a look around and realized how much crap I had, and I tossed it all out. Now I have gone way to the other extreme: I can't stand to have any excess, and I trash things with glee. It's just as bad a sickness as the incessant collecting.

Dom: Thanks so much. Welcome!
Becka: You are so right! Half the time I forget what I have in there, and I "discover" something new and exciting every other day!
I am, like, so behind the times. I don't use IM's. I'm just too craz- busy blogging! But if I ever do, I'll let you know. xox
Mr. L.: I'm going to send him an email tonight and ask him. Of course...you could always "loan" me yours. Or I guess you could start your very own collection. As long as we don't go bidding against each other on Ebay!
Muppet: PLEASE, OH PLEASE come over and help me get rif of stuff! I'll love you even more that I already do! And so would Last Guy! lol xo

Ha! Great post!
We moved my OCD mother in law a few years ago and the collections of new packages of Queen sized pantyhose and hair combs would have blown your mind.
And not once, not even at our wedding, have I ever seen her WEAR pantyhose.
She does use a comb though.
