A very good article. It helps both the newcomer (& someone who's been around for a while), to understand what is in the registry. Takes some of the "Mystery" out of it! Keep up the good work!!

More great coverage on the registry!
One question:
"Microsoft has tried to eliminate this in Vista by providing a specific directory (c:program data) for software authors to store program settings and information."
Is there a way to set up a folder in XP to do the same thing so the programs are not installed in the registry?
I hope there will be a part III in the next issue.
