Dave,
newbies or not, we can all learn. Like you, two different methods is best for me. I always find helpful articles in your newsletters.
Thanks for all you do.

While I agree with you that varying media can sometimes provide that 'click' that causes it all to make sense, what about the issue of speed of connection?
All we see and read would have us believe that the whole world is hardwired to broadband and watching video on demand on their cellphone. It just ain't so. Many of us are stuck with dialup due to inadequate local infrastructure or excessive cost for local delivery. Especially outside of North America.
As much as I enjoy video, I rarely ever indulge on line due to the exorbitant amount of time it takes. Forget streaming video, it might as well be a collection of stills.
Just my 2 centavos worth...

Videos are a good idea. Great way to get a message across.
The topics you choose seem about right to me.
Cheers Pete.

I, too, am on dial-up and unable to watch videos. Every newsletter covers at least one topic that I find useful and interesting. I really cannot think of any improvement. Just keep the newsletters coming please!

Though some readers may not have a high speed connection, it is no reason to stop adding important tips in video. Even a slow download speed allows you to read the rest of the letter while the video downloads.
Do not be discouraged by a few that cannot or decide not to upgrade to high speed.
Alternately, offer a link to download the video for those who cannot stream.

'Alternately, offer a link to download the video for those who cannot stream. - Balayage'
This would be the better solution, else offer a separate video letter. There is no dialup bandwidth left to open links as you reach them if the video is hogging up connection. If one of the links also turns out to be a video, game over for most of an hour or kill the mess in favor of something else.
I would think embedding a link to open the video in a new window/tab would be the simplest, least difficult solution that would harm none and benefit many.

While Broadband connections have become wore pervasive since I first enabled my access in 1999, many users can still get more information without streaming video. Maybe a quick recap of the streamed info would be helpful to users on dialup. ISTM you could expand your user base with more concessions to those who still are waiting for their local providers to give them the additional access.

Though I am far from being a newbie, I am definitely NOT a guru. The quickest way to lose my interest and thus lose me as a subscriber is to concentrate, or swell the newsletter with advanced technical subjects. My advice to anyone is this: Keep it simple. I am not advocating that you abandon the appetite or needs of the PC wizes, for they too need intellectual stimulation, just don't saturate your newsletter with a bunch of "mumbo jumbo".
Thank you

I would like to be able to access both styles of presentation (video and print), but if I had to choose it would be print, because when I'm making changes to my system, I want to go slowly and read instructions more than once before committing myself and Maxwell (my computer).

Hi there, cam you tell me, (step by step if possible), how I can get IE 7 to display pictures in the browser window instead of a square box with a small red cross up in the RHD corner please?
Thanks,
Mike
