If you need help determining whether a Startup Program should be enabled then these are the sites I use beside doing a Google Search:
http://www.whatsrunning.net/
what...nfoCentral.aspx
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php
You can go to the site below if you want to use a program to help manage the Startup items and learn more about them. It was created by a MIT graduate so yeah, he's much smarter than Big Geek Daddy.

The site I use to identify running processes is http://www.answersthatwork.com/T...es/
tasklist.htm
I find it better than the others. Another great tool is the AnVir Task Manager which immediately gives you all sorts of information about runnning processes - plus doing lots of other stuff as well such as listing startup applications, running applications and more. Free version available here: http://www.anvir.com/ . Use it instead of the Windows Task Manager.

I don't trust Windows update for drivers. On a Vista Premium HP Laptop, I let Windows update several drivers. (this is prior to SP1) The sound driver was bad and I lost sound on the computer. I had to go to HP, find their most current driver, remove the new one and re-install the HP one.

The problem (BSOD) will almost certainly have been caused by the HP Digital Imaging program...I just had to re-install Vista because of this parasitic software....I returned the HP multi function and replaced it with an Epson...HP...NEVER AGAIN!!!
