Gravatar Very good info and a real security concern. Glad we have Ken here to keep up on this stuff!

Gravatar It is astonishing what NoScript can do! It is packed with so many options in can be overwhelming for the less technically endowed!

So hopefully you can give me a tip on how to proceed when I open a web page, for example, and shows 9 scripts and 1 object; how can I tell what to do?

If it is a new site I have no way of knowing if it a trust worthy site or not other than the indication I get from McAfee Site Advisor.

I have been selecting temporarily allow this page, just to see what I am missing, but that surly defeats the functionality of the program if I have to do this each time.

I hope you can throw a little light on this matter.

As always thanks for the help and the great site!

Gravatar Great article Ken! We all need to know more about this topic!

Gravatar Brian,

How you deal with the scripts on a website is really a matter of personal personal preference. I understand it can be daunting to see all those things listed on one page. Real security isn't easy to achieve; if it was, everybody would be doing it.

My approach is to first temporarily allow the base domain and make sure everything is OK. Once you feel safe, you have the option of making changes permanent so you don't have to do it each time.

I never allow ad trackers like doubleclick.net or objects like pn2.adserver.yahoo.com.

The NoScript FAQ, http://noscript.net/faq, covers just about everything you can think of and it's worth a look.

The next issue of the newsletter, I'm going to walk through and explain the basics of using NoScript.

Gravatar Thanks, Carol! I always enjoy your articles.

Gravatar Ken,

Thanks for mentioning the way you initially proceed when viewing a site; I will give it a try.

And since this appears to be a very complicated matter I will really appreciate the coverage you are planning in the next issue.

I am sure I won't be the only one who will be patiently waiting for it.

Thanks for the help.

BRIAN
