Gravatar Michelle Obama is kind of let down. It feels good to see a black woman in her position. But I was hoping Obama would be more like Eleanor Roosevelt and less like Jackie Kennedy.

The whole digging in the vegatable garden and reading to school kids all the time is getting old.

When is she actually going to get behind a policy initiative...that would really be meaniful to lives of women and children?

Gravatar I think Michelle Obama is doing a great job as the First Lady. But one thing that bothers me is the growing the number of ridiculous articles written by black women on the President and his wife. It wasn’t that long ago prior to the November election and especially before Barack Obama was even a senator, that most black people didn’t even like him. The comments from these ignorant groups were mainly “He’s too white”, “He’s a square or too nerdy”, He talks like a white boy, etc...In other words he’s not keeping it real; he’s not from the hood or the trifling thug type many blacks prefer. Mrs. Obama received the same bad treatment from many black people as well. But now Mr. Obama is Mr. President, and many of the same black women writers who at one point in time would have looked down on and even made fun of his intelligence/brilliance as acting white, now glow each time his name is mentioned. Some of these women are now even saying they would love to find a Barack type single black man to marry. My point is that too many black people have turned the Obama Presidency into nothing but a popularity fad while not holding the President accountable to the important policies that will impact African Americans.

Gravatar Well said , Frank. There does seem to be a strain of disingenuousness as it pertains to a segment of the Black community that NOW likes the Obamas but were critical of their "Black authenticity" during the campaign. And as Mr. Starks and I stated on last night's Afronerd Radio broadcast, many of us appear to be failing in using the Obama presidency as a guide or template as it relates to improving our collective stature. Minstrelsy, coonery and self-defeatism appear to be at a all time high in some of our communities of color....
