That video was so repititive and boring that I'd never make it past the first 30 seconds if I were flipping channels. The irony is that if someone did pick up a book (a good one), they might be able to point out all the things wrong with that video.

"On public transportation at least, African American romance novels and fiction seem have found a comfortable -- and profitable -- niche among adults." - I must argue that most Americans don't read enough because there is so little time for many people. After working50-80 hours a week and interacting with their children most people struggle to find time for personal hobbies.
Persoanlly, I read a lot of everything because I love to read period.
Finally, that "REad a book" song and video is being played on BET aling with the new Common video.

"An amazing 54% of young boys under 15 years of age (more than half of school aged boys) have never read a book. Most of them drop out of school because they’re made to read books"
This is so hard to believe.

I think he's taken the 'read a book' video a little too seriously. I got the impression that it was meant to be a satire, as in 'this is what we're going to have to resort to in order to get people to fix up'. Even the Lil' John-esque cartoon rapper seems to be a deliberate joke. I watched it in that light, and couldn't stop laughing.
Also, on that 54% of 15 year-olds thing. It is shocking if true. The class I worked with last month had several of 10-11 Y.O. black boys, and the class all had at least half an hour of reading every day. Of course, if schools and parents aren't getting them to read at this age, I could see how it would be nigh-on impossible to do it when they reach 15.
