I've been opposing the ganster rap and thug imagery since I have left puberty. Whenever people around me criticised hiphop I was the first to point them toward alternative and underground artists. I keep pointing out that the popular trash on tv isn't what hiphop is about.
Artists like The Procussions, Common, The Roots, Kweli, Blackalicious (and others) are the groups that are on the highest echelons of hiphop yet their music doesn't get the attention it really deserves. But that's just my opinion.
I want this trash that they call hiphop nowadays - to die. This 'public outrage' may finally do the job.

The hip-hop community is ignoring this Nas just had a hit with "Hip-Hop Is Dead" released by Def Jam which Russell Simmons still has financial ties too.
