I think this is only a shock to non-black people. Black people are aware that we disagree on issues concerning our community, we are aware that people are varied, we are aware that we are individuals. I believe it happens to be America at large that fails to see us as individuals and colors us all with a wide paint brush.
Rev. Jackson has not only done a detriment to Obama and his campaign as a unifier but also to his status as a man of the cloth by using such colorful language. I am not saying that I myself don't use colorful language but then again nor am I claiming that I am a pastor or a spokesperson for the black community.

Look Rev. Baby Daddy...OOOPS I mean the honroable Rev. Jesse Jackson is a TV professional. He's either been interviewed or hosted a program or has been on TV in some form or another every week for the last 40 years., So he knows, like every other TV professional, that once you enter the studio the mircophone is NEVER off and the cameras are always rolling even during commercials or supposedkly when you're "off camera" So I have to believe that what he said he did on purpose to try to tear him down. But it'll backfire.
Though it should be common knowledge, the fact of the matter is that Jackson, indeed the whole Jackson family and every other so-called black "leader" hates Obama with a passion. The last thing they want is to see him be president. It's straight up "player hatin'" He's the new game in town and is stealing their thunder and exposing them for the frauds and the "do nothings" that they are and always have been

Obama in the white equals different skin, same BS! Black people are in love with this guy cause he has like 50% black blood. These morons i come across call him Jesus, like he's going to save them or something!
i really don't think that guy even cares about blacks, he just wants their votes! He pops up here and there and mentions Hip-Hop artists like Lil wayne, just to make blacks feel he's with them. The guy is a devil!
Jackson is trash too, but this guy is a devil ass snake!

@KingGarvey pppuuulllleeezzz every politician panders for the black vote. The reason for this is simple because without the black vote as a democrat you can not be elected president PERIOD!
Point number two of your twisted logic, concerning Obama not being concerned about black people and their plight. Fudge that it is time that individual black people begin to take responsibility for their actions and stop waiting for a savior. I don’t as a Black American expect Obama to solve all of my problems, some problems are self-inflicted and those self-inflicted problems are the ones that continue to plague Black America.
I am not for one instance saying that institutionalized racism does not exist but first clean your own house out first.

@ Jazzy
On the countary Jesse's remarks will only help Obama espeically with white voters who can't stand Jackson. They'll see that if Jesse hates then Obama must be all right with them. It's actually Obama more of a unifier in a way. The only person really damanged by Jesse's comments is Jesse himself. Once again he has revealed himself for the petty, shallow, envious, little person that he is. The media and other people elsewhere might be fooled but here in Chicago he's been considered a joke for a long time. (And this is not the first time that he or other members of the Jackson family have criticized Obama publicly or privately) All this will do is to further lower Jesse's already diminishing public standing and reputation

Garvey, What is the deal with a reference to how Black Obama is? NO ONE is pure in the Black community...heck if you saw Dr. Henry Louis Gates special "African-American Lives" many of the blacks interviewed had white antecedents. They ranged from 20 to 50% european although they came from monoracial Black parentage! Cut the crap, no one can measure someone's Blackness....try going to Africa and we would ALL come up short...His name is Barack Obama....an alleged "black" name could be the very anglicized Leroy Williams but "Obama" is the "less Black" of the two. and he has a solidly black wife..again, can we stop this foolishness!

I completely agree with you. I did not express my self well enough in my first comment. What I was trying to express is that for the greater part I believe that non-black people view leaders such as Jackson and Sharpton as the sole spokesmen for the black community, and in some way my contribute Jackson’s disdain for Obama as the truth regarding Obama’s popularity among minorities. I think you made valid points that Jackson’s comments will win huge points with this demographic

Not all the Jackson family hates Obama. Jesse's own son issued a very strongly-worded statement rebuking his father.
Sergio is right that this helps the campaign. I think conservatives would love to equate Obama with Sharpton and Jackson, but since Obama rarely appears with either of them it's a hard link to make. Jackson's comment just takes that tactic completely off the table.

I was pretty disappointed by all of this, it really has no bearing on the election because in all honesty most of America doesnt take Jesse Jackson very seriously but last I checked he was a motivator and leader. That is not the type of behavior that someone who marched alongside MLK should be exhibiting... He gets the dunce award this week!

I can't mention names but I have talked personally to other members of the Jackson family and believe me, none of them have had one positive thing to say about Obama. It's not just Daddy.
As for Jesse Jr. keep in mind that he has said publicly on more than one occasion that he intends to run here for mayor of Chicago and there are plans for his wife Sandi, who's now a Chicago alderman to run for Congress, so the LAST thing they need is anything to screw up their chances. Unfortunately, Daddy just can't help f------g things up

“I 'm just saying don't let the so called black skin on "OSAMA" fool you black people! Obama is a politician which means he's a robot and a liar! He cares nothing about black people.”
What you are essential saying is something akin to Black people are waiting on Obama to solve their problems. You for a lack of a better word are Simple. That goes for any person that believes a politician is going into office for the sole purpose of devoting their term to solving their personal problems. As Americans we all have common issues that deserve immediate attention. If you expect honesty from ANY politician I have some land I am dying to sell you!

I really don't feel the need to respond to your weak laughable comment, but for your education, for someone who who has the nerve to call themselves after the greatest black leader of the 20th century you are willfully ignorant of about black people who have a West Indian/South American backgound hense my "Spanish" name. I suggest you ought to do more more reading about Garvey and the history of black people in general and less displaying of your ignorance

Though rough on the edges, King Garvey's support for Jackson's anti-Obama rant has a ring of truth. Obama's "pro-family" message sounds good, but I question if Barack is more concerned about winning over skeptical White swing voters that really empowering the Black community.
On a related note, there are more anti-Jackson bloggers who begrudgingly admit the reverend's skepticism of Obama isn't wrong. Some examples:

Fred, two things about your theory:
1) the winning White voters loses ground because Obama has been talking this way about (and to) Black people for few years....the Black responsibility & fatherhood rap dates back to his Audacity of Hope book and he has been stumping this speech before he was the nominee.
2) Why are we concerned about what Whites think? It's time to own up to some of OUR complicity with internal BS....we have to use Whites as a measuring stick for this....our dysfunction has been laid to bear once the neo-minstrel machine began 15 years ago....it's no secret about Black pathologies..."nigger", "hoe" and "bitch" have been on heavy rotation for years in rap and we "take" that as a community...what's the problem with constructive criticism....and whites DEFINITELY buy hip hop....time to own up (and pull our pants up at the same time!)
