The Humble Housewife

Gravatar Go for the Calphalon Hard-Anodized Aluminum. I have one and would love more! The best thing about it is--you can use your metal tongs.

Gravatar I, too, have Calphalon, and you can't kill the stuff. I love that it goes into the oven also. The only thing I've found is that it discolors (inside), but still cooks the same. I would like to try Le Creuset, my friend is French and that's all she has. Of course it's much cheaper there than here.
I will have to try the mascarpone mixture on my next shortcakes.
Happy Birthday!

Gravatar ugh... maybe in France Lisa - the Le Creuset OUTLET here would break your bank! Unfortunately I'll have a ceramic hob (miss my gas) which doesn't take too well to the heaviness of Le Creuset!

Thanks for the tips on the Calphalon though you guys!

Gravatar that looks so good. I LOVE the wedge shapes with the strawberries!

Gravatar I just love strawberries and I'mm drooling over your photo. I also love all the little roadside stalls you find in parts of Ireland.

Gravatar Thanks Marye!

Lol Chris - I actually grew up thinking I hated them, but thank God I came around - what was I thinking? The stalls are nice aren't they? I got a huge bucket of blackberries too... not quite as ripe as I'd like but good enough for cobbler!

Gravatar oh, yum. that looks so darn good.

we have raspberries growing by the fence. i wonder if i could use those?

Gravatar I just bought some strawberries from the shops and they were so delicious I had finished the whole punnet before I got back to the car!!

Gravatar Definitely Laurie... that would be most yummy. I'd zest a little lemon on them and toss them in a wee bit of sugar and let them sit for a bit before assembling. You could garnish with more lemon, although I might leave out the vanilla and use lemon zest in the cream instead... goes better with raspberries!

Gravatar Your strawberry shortcake looks delicious! It is fun to have that summery food as the season winds down. Let me tell you that we will be in Charleston for Mary's wedding and I would trade your cool weather in a second for the steambath we will experience down there. Enjoy your b-day friend! Miss you!

Gravatar Just one thing about anodized aluminum (from any manufacturer)--you can't put these things in the dishwasher. EVER. But they clean up pretty easily with a nylon scrubbie, or at most an overnight soak (rare!)

The pan I have is the Everyday pan; like a skillet, about 10 or 11 inches across, and with a lid. It's a real workhorse. I have recommended this pan to a neighbor who also loves it, and given it as a wedding shower gift on more than one occasion.

Gravatar Mmmmmmm - this is one of my favourite desserts. Happy birthday Deborah!! This looks amazing, great pic btw

Gravatar Those strawberries are so vibrantly red! And I've never even thought about making homemade shortcake. Thank you for the brilliant idea.

Gravatar that looks delicious!!!
