The Humble Housewife

Gravatar Okay - so I'm a little distant from this and that is why I can sit here and laugh at forkncork - I understand that you would be hurt - try not to let it get to you - he says he wants his website to be non pompous? yet pompous is exactly how he comes across in criticising your blog! I think you know many of us appreciate the recipes, the stories and the writing is a sight better than on many a blog I've read lately!

Gravatar Thanks Anniw¬ You are too good! I know I shouldn't let it get to me... but it was just so abusive you know... if you don't like the blog fine, but is there any reason to be so nasty about it? *SIGH*

Gravatar The link to the post is no longer going to a post, and I get nothing but errors searching for the word "housewife", so maybe the jerk took his post down. He was probably afraid he'd lose too many more readers to your blog, once they came here and found out what a nice place it was to hang out.

For the record, I think your blog rocks.

And for longer than I can remember, I have been putting "Domestic Goddess" as my official title on my tax returns. They've never said a word about it.

Remember hon, jealousy is the sincerest form of flattery. If he's making such a fuss about your site, he's obviously jealous. Poor little jealous man - shown up by a happy housewife. Karma is alive and well.

Gravatar Hell if I could stop work tomorrow I would. No children though so don't really have an excuse, just lazy!!

Gravatar Pay no heed Deborah, I think you have a great blog here. Only recently discovered it.

Comments like the one made by Cyprien Ragueneau (seriously, c'mon, Tarquin Lim Tim Bim) always smack of fear to me.

I tried reading Fork n Cork a few times but there is really only so much pomposity one can read in an average week.

At least I can go back to reading Food n Wine, now that it has stopped being some sort of Social n Personal rag for the hasbeens and never-weres of 1970's Ireland.

Gravatar Thats the thing about the internet.
You can't chuck a brick without hitting a moron with an opinion, and a mouth.

And in the anonymity of the internet, they're not afraid to use it.

You've a damn fine blog. And your a damned fine cook.

To hell with him. He's essentially unimportant.

Gravatar Hey Deborah. Ya I thought it a bit harsh. At the end of the day you're not going to please everyone and as you said yourself you know by your hits how popular your blog is. The whole point of a blog is it's all about your ideas and opinions and if like minded people want to read it they can. You're not forcing anyone to read it if they don't want to. A lot of time and effort goes into these blogs and it's nice to get great feedback but with that there are the negatives too unfortunatley. Anyway I think the name is great, it does what it says on the tin! and keep doing what you're doing because you know it works for you and who cares if some people don't like it. And remember all publicity is good publicity. You probably got loads of new readers from his comments!!

Gravatar Thanks for all the support you guys! I really shouldn't be so bothered... I know. It was just so harshly worded that it felt personal. No prob if someone doesn't like the blog - just don't come back, but that was a tad much!

Carrie- too funny about the tax return! Will have to try that this year... which reminds me! Ugh! We still have to file US taxes since DH is American... better get on that one today!

Conor- Thanks for the reminder... after bashing F&W last month I reluctantly picked it up this month and was pleasantly surprised! I might have to recant!

Gravatar Deborah,
F*&k him! A blog is a blog. At least you know you have readers who enjoy you. I, personally, started my blog for me. I'm happy that a small handful like it (and you seem to have more than a small handful!)
I am old enough to know that I don't know everything, or that I should give advice to other people. Also, I don't understand mothers who put down other mothers, for whatever they do. I work part-time, so I get it from both groups. For me, I am a better Mom that way, and isn't it all that counts!? Your children will thank you one day, and they don't know any better now about the material garbage. Easier said than done, but make yourself and your
family happy. In the grand scheme of things, that will be all that matters.

(Wow, I'm awfully philisophical this morning!(

Gravatar Thanks Lisa! Am with you on the whole mothrehood thing. Did the Happy Housewives thing for awhile, but couldn't deal with the exclusion of it. Who is anyone to say that working mothers are bad or doing the wrong thing? My own Mother always worked and it was great for us. I'm pretty sure one of use would be dead right now if she hadn't! I was always brought up to believe I could do anything and being a housewife was NEVER on my radar... but at this point in my life it is the right thing to do. Once the kids are in school I certainly see myself going back to work... at least part time... but who knows? Anyhoo... thanks for the support! As I said in the other comments, you really are an inspiration to Moms everywhere!

Gravatar My sister is a food blogger in San Francisco and has had a really tough time from a newspaper food critic amongst others. She has never taken a free meal or used her name to get preferential treatment and writes as she sees it. I admire this but I guess some see it as threatening.

I think your blog is great and as you have a loyal fan base I would just leave that eejit with his face up his ass and continue with the great blog!

Gravatar Thanks Beccy! You're too funny!

Gravatar Let me just say that whoever said anything negative about you is an idiot and that this frittata was so scrumptious! I usually don't even like asparagus and I ate it right up.

Also, your garlic bread was well seasoned, flavorful, and perfect with the frittata. Of course, it could have been that the chef was so outstanding.

Thanks for all of the fantastic meals you prepared during my visit! You have inspired me to use more flavors and spices in my new kitchen!

Gravatar Thanks Amy! Come back anytime - but I think it's my turn to come over for some taco pie! Oh yeah!

Gravatar Hi Deborah,
Was away for a few days so missed out on fork n corkgate. Ditto to all above, I missed you while you were gone!

Gravatar Hi Amy,
I was just searching for an asparagus frittata recipe and came across your blog. I had to laugh at your comments. Your writing is grammatically correct and I got a kick out of your "shit" comment. Don't get let what others think bother you. I'm going to make your frittata recipe and that's all that matters. Keep up the good work! The garlic bread looks yummy too. I've bookmarked your site and plan to share it with a few other cooks as well.

Gravatar Welcome BDG - glad you like the page. Thanks for the warm words... look forward to speaking with you!

P.S> It's Deborah BTW!
