The Humble Housewife

Gravatar You manage to cook everything I like. That cheese cake looks yummy: and I do have a jar of homemade lemon curd in my fridge (beccy is due a visit in July so might try it then) but I also want to try the blueberry muffins!! I must make sure beccy knows about the comp.

Gravatar Yum - to everything!

The flour IS different here. We call brown bread, Wheaten bread in the North, and I order my coarse wholemeal flour from foodireland.com - because I can't get coarse here either!

Have fun on yer hols!

Gravatar Your muffins looks delicious. I'm going to try it out. I haven't have much success with muffins yet. In the area I live in France, I couldn't find cream cheese, so we have been fiddling around with a mixture of cheese and cream to get the right texture of New York Cheese cake. Sometimes we almost got it right but we forgot to note down the measurement of each part, so we are back to square one.

Gravatar i have a terrific soda bread recipe that i make several times a year. it's not very traditional--it uses white flour instead of whole wheat, and it has a CUP yes a CUP of sugar. (otherwise the ingredients are the same, i think. flour, buttermilk, soda, salt, baking powder, butter.)

it's almost like irish soda cake. but man is it good, slathered with butter hot from the oven, or toasted. yum yum yum

Gravatar Yummmm to everything! I have this coming week off and I hope to have some time to bake! I have been inspired my friend.

Gravatar Hey Deb,
I changed the official title of my blog to The Life of a Newlywed. I read other people's titles and I thought about what would sound interesting to those tooling around the internet. I figured that chad and amy sounds boring but plenty of people would tune in to see me screw up being a newlywed. Just thought you might like to know.

Amy

Gravatar The flour IS different, Nigella or Donna Hay (I can't remember) has said how one or the other has some extra thing in it, so you're absolutely right.
The cheesecake sounds wonderful, I love lemon.

Gravatar Great recipes Deborah! I've just inherited a cooker that's had all the temperature guides cleaned off the knobs - thank goodness for no-bake cheesecake, the rest will be an exciting hit or a miss.

Gravatar Yum (Miam in French), your cheesecake looks sinfully delicious !

Gravatar Hi Deborah...thanks for the compliment! I had to comment when I saw what you said about flour. Did you read Kieran Murphy's piece on the amount of raising agents in the plain flour that is available in Irish supermarkets? (You'll find it here) It is really difficult to get just plain, plain flour - perhaps that's the reason that you here and your mother in the US had problems with your respective recipes?

Gravatar Deborah -- that cheesecake looks fabulous. My lemon lovers will be happy!

Gravatar those muffins made my mouth water!!!

I've still got to get my entry in...

I have to figure it out and make it first!

Gravatar I agree that American flour is different. I prefer flour purchased in Canada, specifically brand name, not store brand. Makes lighter breads and cakes, cookies turn out better etc. I live in WA, and spend time with friends and go to church in BC Canada, so I always pick up my flour there.

Gravatar just wanted to let you know that my entry is up for the comp.

have a great trip!
