The Humble Housewife

Gravatar Interesting blog. You would make a nice addition to my blogroll.

I found you through a link exchange that I have with "Kissing the Dogwood"

Would you be interested in a link swap? Check out my site http://mondaymorningpower.blogspot.com. If you like what you see and agree, then link my site to yours, leave me a comment on my blog that you have done so and I will immediately do the same.

Gravatar When Eddie Rockets started all those years ago the food was superb. Garlic cheese fries with decent cheese. Chilli fries which were a meal in themselves. Huge stack burgers.

Looks like they realised they could make more money by moving down market (but above McD's). A pity as I love the concept.

Gravatar Sounds like McD's would have been better -- at least there would have been some quality control. Is this brother of our Johnnie Rockets?

Gravatar Yep. Sounds like the common or garden Eddie Rockets experience to me. Only missing cheap beer, burnt food, and occasionally random service.

The last drunken foray I made through those crimson and ivory doors resulted in food so badly cooked that it was inedible.

Gravatar I go to Eddie Rockets almost every week and I agree with you on most of the points you made. Yes it is expensive and some of the food especially coated chicken dishes are overspiced. Their new menu with chicken pieces is way to spicy but then I like the mashed potatoes that come with it.

My favourites are the burgers and the chicken Caesar salad which is usually great even though it costs more than I'm usually willing to pay for a salad.

Gravatar Hi Deborah,
Couldn't agree more. We made the mistake of opting to stop in the newly opened Eddie Rockets off Kinsale road in Cork yesterday on way home from holidays. Food and service were both bad and very disappointing. None of the kids ate the burgers which consisted of a burnt, dry burger in a bun, no garnish or dressing. They merely picked at the fries. The kid's fish option was as bad. Awful, we won't be returning.

Gravatar I remember when ERs first came to Ireland too, it was a real treat in those days. As you know I'm all for home grown local food, but theres nothing like a good old greasy fish or burger n chips ... trouble is, they are hard to find these days!
Burdocks in Dublin used to be the place to go, is it still? We would go about once a month, there was a queue around the corner at opening time!

Gravatar Eddie Rockets sure is a popular place! It was a favourite hangout of mine in my late teens, because of the atmosphere, the juke-box, and the chocolate fudge. I've never been in the Bray restaraunt, but the others captivated me. I've never seen so much fun go on in a kitchen what with their dancing antics and messery, it's almost like dinner and a show!

If you need an alternative place to eat in Bray at night, skip McDonalds (though that building is beautiful!), and go to Henry & Rose at the trainstation. It's a legendary place. There's nothing like a late night picnic of takeaway food on the promenade

Gravatar you shouldn't bring "foreign" workers into your comments, they work very hard and yes sometimes there english is bad but they try so hard.....

Gravatar Ann - Whilst I don't believe in making derogatory statements about workers due to ethnicity or race, I do feel that if a linguistic misunderstanding affects the meal it has to be mentioned in the review. You will note I did not mention her nationality, as it is irrelevent, what was relevent however is the fact that her not understanding me, diminished our dining experience. End of story. Had that not been an issue, her "foreigness" would never have been mentioned.

Gravatar eddie rockets great decor. and choc malts used to be good but now using cheapo imitation horlicks malt which is loaded with salt, all else is mean and crap.meat is poor and burgers crisped with all juice squeezed out.even early on they had real coke bottles but only syrup draught coke.no real american diner would last a week with the shoddy goods and poor range of foods.still i guess the mark up must be colossal and they have a big undiscerning public.bray is th armpit of the east coast for food-the hotel is awful, the chinese vile the mcdonalds and kfc poorly managed.campo de fiori now up its own arse and the cypriot place closed.
