I've always wanted to do a rib roast and Yorkshire Pudding for Christmas, this would go great with it. Sounds like I need to start now though, and I don't know if I'm doing Christmas! (may have to talk about that at Thanksgiving!)
Have a great visit, and I hope there are some foodie treats for you in those suitcases!

My mother-in-law used to make hers with Guiness instead of whiskey. It tasted almost chocolatey, and lasted forever, just as your one from the previous year. I never tried it, as her reputation was fearsome in the kitchen, but this looks do-able, even for me! Thanks for the pictures!

This looks like a yummy recipe, I might have to shelve my normal antipathy toward Christmas puds to give this a go...
Yeah, talking about boozy Christmas puddings, the first year I spent Christmas in Ireland (2001 in case anyone is asking), a colleague of mine made a HUGE Christmas pudding for me to take back to South Africa for my mom (I don't eat the stuff).
Well, it was incredibly boozy. Not just brandy, but Guinness and Lord alone knows what else had gone into it. My mum, not being a drinker, actually got tipsy off the slice of it that she ate!
Was a very memorable Christmas pudding and when I returned home the following April what remained of the pudding was still in the cupboard, in perfect condition, but with a pool of liquour at the bottom of the cake tin that had leached out of the pudding!
We got the wild birds drunk with the leftovers...

Bring us some figgy pudding! I've always wondered what it was, and now I know. Thanks for the most interesting post.
