I have grown to dislike CGI over the last few years and feel it would take away much of what makes Bone special.
And what would that be, exactly? I must confess that any specialness in Bone has escaped me completely.

Oh Templar, there you are again criticizing our choices in comic books.
Okay, I realize not everybody is going to love Bone. Just most of everybody.
What's special? Well, Smith's Walt Kelly-inspired brushwork, for one thing. That won't translate into CGI. Also, I hold the opinion that 2D cartoons have a certain charm, a certain ability to convey ideas and emotions by putting contrasting images into the same 2D space, and I feel CGI simply can't capture this. The sight of Fone Bone (cartoony) and Thorn (more realistically drawn) in the same panel has a certain effect I can't describe, but which I believe would be lost if they were both CGI or if Bone were CGI and Thorn were a flesh-and-blood actress.

True enough, but that's not really a quality exclusive to Bone, is it?

I dunno. The juxtaposition of the cartoony and realistic styles side-by-side always struck me as evoking, not so much charm as Daliesque weirdness.
