The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Deej--you were in a suit--and I missed it??

See what happens when we don't have coffee after Mass?? He sneaks away before I can get photographic evidence..

Gravatar No, I wore the suit and bow tie last night to the vigil Mass. This morning I merely wore slacks, dress shirt, and tie.

Gravatar The Importance of Being Earnest is one of my favorite plays. I have watched it performed on film and stage multiple times. And of course there is Oscar Wilde's deathbed conversion to the Church that fought against most of his life.

Gravatar Snuffles, I ask again, when are you going to make a man of Deej? Translations are so weak. He needs to read Eusebius in Greek!

Gravatar ...Oscar Wilde's deathbed conversion to the Church that fought against most of his life.

Or flirted with much of his life, from what I've read. The Catholic friend who brought the priest for his conversion doubted his sincerity, but I suppose that isn't really a matter we ought to speculate on.

Gravatar Incidentally, there was something of a rash of English bohemian conversions to Catholicism around that time. Interesting historical phenomenon; don't ask me to explain it because I know pretty much nothing about the subject.

Gravatar Eat a Peeps...?! Aren't they microwave toys?

Gravatar I finished Earnest of course (and a few more comics). I enjoyed it greatly, though I do think there is less real substance behind the dialogue than there is in Dorian Gray, in which the society wits have real purpose, meaning, and menace rather than mere paradoxical banter. Love the Gilbert-and-Sullivan-esque ending, though.

"The only way to treat a woman is to make love to her, if she is pretty, or to someone else, if she is plain." That's classic.

Gravatar And to the author of Earnest I have this reply--

Us women who may be "plain" as you so put it may have excellent skills in making an incredible breakfast, creating a most tender potroast, and also dabble a bit in small firearms as well....

Gravatar Eat a Peeps...?! Aren't they microwave toys?

Let the peep jousting tournament begin!

Gravatar D.G.--do we have a schedule for Eusebius? Being basically lazy (and busy) I do better with a target date....

Gravatar Oh, you know, finish by Pentecost.
