The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Riding a motorcycle without clothes will give you a terrible windburn.. And I'm at the age where some well-meaning soul would stop me and say "Ah..Madam..you forgot your shirt..and your pants.. " I do the world a big favor by being covered up My next bike will be a Harley...I have a Yamaha now..and no snide remarks about the rice-burner..

Gravatar I'm confused about something: why a volume of Bone if you've already reviewed the thing in it's entirety already? If you wanted to break the story down I could understand, but why start on the third story arc?

You're really starting to creep me out a bit; not only are you the only catholic blog I know that discusses anime/manga, but you also touched upon another interest of mine, philosophy of religion, in your review.

It's like one of the better educated personalities floating around in my head decided to start up a blog under a pseudonym...

Gravatar Sorry, the first line should have read "Why review one volume of Bone if you've already reviewed the thing in it's entirety?"

Gravatar Thomas-I know what you mean. Someone here wanders into some topic I Really, Really care about (and often have studied or taught for years) an average of once a week. It doesn't creep me out much; I think it's more like finding the new book I need just when I want it: not quite providence but more than chance. I think if D.G. weren't a fiction writer himself the effect wouldn't be so pronounced; most artistic people attract a circle of folks with similarly analytical/creative minds and the Net makes it easier.

Anyway, on the advice of this and neighboring blogs, I've just started reading Wolfe for the first time (Shadow of the Torturer). And it weirds me out in all the "wrong" places--the chapter of the library basement was like someone did a mind-read on me before writing it.

Gravatar Why review one volume of Bone if you've already reviewed the thing in it's entirety?

Good question. I guess I never really thought about it. I posted the review of the whole shmeer back when the blog was in its infancy. I don't consider those early posts "official." Besides that, I want to talk about the coloring, and besides that, I like Bone, and besides that, I thought I could really go off on Hick, which I've wanted to do for a long time, even though his book has nothing to do with Bone whatsoever, but tying together unrelated things is the part of the fun and challenge of a blog like this.

It's like one of the better educated personalities floating around in my head...

I hope that's a good thing, but as far as the level of education goes, plenty of Catholic blogs are well ahead of me.
