The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Wonderful!! Centuries ago in myn Film Studies class we briefly mentioned it..in the early 80's only a few folks were left who had remembered viewing it, and only the butchered version. Hopefully the powers that be will restore it and release it to theaters like they did with "Ben Hur."

The Ogden Egyptian Theatre has the capability of playing silent movies and has an on-site restored organ and piano and talented accompainest..it would be delightful to see the film with any original music score.

Gravatar i was so happy that day that I made a little analyses of the architecture NEW and OLD scenes included.
have a look http://www.blog.ar2com.de/metrop...lang-1926-2008/

Gravatar Sara, I have the Kino restored version with the original score if you want to borrow it. It doesn't have the newly discovered scenes, of course, but contains all of the movie that was thought to exist before this discovery was made, with short summaries of the missing sections.

I also have the novelization Thea von Harbou, the screenwriter, produced from her notes, which expands significantly on the film and also makes an entertaining example of melodramatic overwritiing.

Julakim, thank you for the link. As Snuffles and I were working on our post, I realized I needed more data on the architecture and atmosphere than I had and ordered some books on the subject. It's good to have another source.

Gravatar sorry the link for architecture in metropolis is http://www.blog.ar2com.de/metrop...lang-1926-2008/

Gravatar VHS or DVD???

Many folks will drop their jaws in disbelief....but yes when I took my Film Studies it was 1982, the VCR had just barely came out,and ther ewere no video rental stores, at least where I lived. So how did we do a Film Studies class??? LIke taking a Music Appreciation class without listening to music?? Well--we READ about them, attended a few viewings in old theatres, and watched some on TV..but mostly read about them. We had an excellent textbook that to this day I wish I had kept. We also had an excellent professor who understood that probably 95 percent of the student in the class were there to fulfill the Gen Ed requirement(including me) and not genuine film students. But he made the class fun, and not so rigorous that it was pulling you away from your more important classes relating to your major.. He was especially a fan of the 50's and 60's B movies, the old Dracula Frankenstein etc horror movies, and the Japanese Godzilla vs Monster of the Day flicks.. those were easy assignments as the local independent tv channel showed those movies all the time... then Elvira hit the scene..

Gravatar VHS or DVD???

What is this thing you call VHS? That sounds suspiciously like an acronym.

And for that matter, what's a DVD? I have it on Beta, of course.*

*No, I have it on DVD.

Gravatar Whoops..the dreaded acronym....I should be smited for that...I'll try not to let it happen again....but in my employment with the government it unfortunately slops over quite a bit in my personal life...
