The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Great photos Deej!! Is it just me or are there lots of photos of really CUTE girls??

Can I swipe a few of the photos to send to a friend in LA?? They don't have REAL jousting either..that would have been AWESOME to see.

Gravatar Is it just me or are there lots of photos of really CUTE girls??

Well, I too am a man, as they say. And you're right, there are a lot of photos of Lucky!

I assume you want the jousting photos. Go ahead. I don't care if anyone borrows the pictures as long as no one does anything untoward with them, which I know you won't.

Gravatar Great photos, Deej. So nice for Lucky to get a little fresh air and exercise... er, um, as it were, I mean.

Our camera broke last week and we haven't fixed or replaced it yet, so I didn't get any pictures today of a nice family outing to a local spring flower festival, featuring no knights or jousting, but a large number of kompfenating Calvinists (which was amusing) and some mod-ish Native AMerican music (which was entertaining).

Gravatar Oops, I meant "k_l_ompfenating" Calvinists.

And, I left my mace of office at home, went incognito, and smote no one.

Gravatar And, I suppose, from two of these photos, you've all been able to guess my terrible secret: I'm left-handed.

Gravatar Yeah, I noticed the southpaw shooting and throwing. But, ya know, I figured, "I'm not left-handed either."

Where can I get a brace of those paint-ball dueling pistols? Those are way cool! Think of the smiting I could do with those!

Gravatar Those were actually rubber band pistols.

Gravatar Smiter--

What exactly is Klompfenating?? I cant find it in my dictionary, but being a former Calvinist in my previous life I probably participated from time to time

Gravatar Deej--I just received a favorable reply from my friend in LA (that is Los Angeles to the rest of the world, not Louisiana Their Faire is going in right now and he and 5 friends went in their Scottish finery...they are jealous of our REAL jousting. Scott said it was 95 and miserable..

Their Faire is a MAJOR big deal...I attended many many moons ago resembling in a few ways the photo of your sprightly young fairies... he also said there was more than a little skin showing too...but of course it was/is HOT!!!!

Gravatar Sara,

"Klompfenating" is my neologism for "marching in klompen." THe local HS marching band was leading off the parade in their Dutch baggy pants and hats... and wooden shoes (from the sound, they seemed to have metal plates on the soles, too). They weren't too bad, as HS marching bands go, but they sure can't march fast in those things.

Theologically, of course, "klompfenating" implies all sorts of Calvinist iconoclasms...

Gravatar Deej,

Rubber bands? Oh... (looks mildly disappointed)

Gravatar My problem with a Dutch festival is the Calvinist food, which is virtually indistinguishable from wooden shoes.

And I'm not buying this sinister claim/photos--I know this is just a set up for anyone who takes you on, so you can gleefully exclaim mid-duel, "I know something you don't know. I'm not left-handed."

Gravatar Thanks for putting these photos up: I feel as if I was able to go there virtually! Glad to have found your blog since I like scifi too.

Gravatar Thanks for joining us here on the blog, Ruth. Just be warned that I get authors' names wrong from time to time.

Gravatar Ah Xena--I hail from German and Norwegian lands... from the time I was a small girl my grandmother instructed in the fineries of Norwegian cooking. I especially remember my lesson on how to properly prepare lutfiske.. at the conclusion of the lesson as we were eating our dinner I politely inquired of my grandmother as to the proper occasion to serve the dish. She gave me one of those grandmotherly-wise looks and commented along the lines of "Well, dear , if there is a particular young man courting you that you are not particularly fond of, invite him over for dinner and serve him the lutfiske....I promise you he will not bother you again. If he DOES come back perhaps you should rethink the matter.." Those words of wisdom have proven successful on two noteworthy occasions...the young men in question were never seen from again The BIG problem though is that I think they told their buddies I was trying to poison them or something

Gravatar Sara--LOL! that's great! You'll certainly never hear me snark about German food....

Currently reading Gene Wolfe's "Pirate Freedom" which is quite good. I keep picturing Johnny Depp, but that's probably inevitable (and not unpleasant).

Gravatar Xena--

On the German side there is always blutwurst, especially when you break them open and spread over the noodles....My German grandma showed me that one although I've never actually had to implement it... You'll attract vampires for miles around

I've also been told that I can prepare a rather authentic haggis A guy I was dating a few years back was Scottish (back in my good Scottish Presbyterian lifetime) and his mum shared the recipe with me. The ingredients can be rather difficult to procure around here though.. :/ Something to keep in mind when you're asked to bring something to a potluck...you'll probably never be asked to contribute again

P.S. Deej--for the upcoming parish picnic I AM pringing Nowegian COOKIES... promise For those who might be familiar they are rosetters and krumkake..mucho butter and eggs.

Gravatar Xena-- I am enjoying Space Vulture now.. a nice entertaining read...upon your recommendation I may try Pirate Freedom...that is, if I don't get an assignment from Snuffles to develop powered armor in my limited spare time..
Oh yes.. we also had our community meeting today...went very well. It is always so nice to pray the Rosary together in community.

Gravatar Lest folks get the wrong idea.. I DO have several recipes that usually get requests for seconds... one is my slow-cooker roast beef with potatoes, carrots, and a few other assorted vegetables (so tender it melts in your mouth), another is Southern-style baked beans, another is my world-famous hot apple crisp with vanilla ice cream..and I usually bring carrot salad to the parish Lenten fish frys...

Gravatar Great fun pics!!

And yes, I didn't notice that left-handed thing until I read the comments.

Gravatar Xena--

I finished Space Vulture...twas EXCELLENT!! I found out today that I will be making a business trip to Sin City next week so will pick up Pirate Freedom to take with me...will be spending some not so quality time hanging out in airports and shuttle buses..

A Carmelite in Las Vegas..hhmm.. And the guys I'm travelling with are REALLY LAME too..they're actually bringing their WIVES...so I'll have to make my own fun I've wanted to check out the Star Trek show they have there..plus take in some incredible power shopping

Gravatar Sara-I started Space Vulture today. Looks pretty good, 'though it does make me miss Doc Smith's ecstatic descriptions of spaceship weapons.

Las Vegas is a great place to see a movie. Most casinos have big, clean movie theatres with no lines. I found casinos joyless, tawdry places, but I can't complain about the nice movie venues. (There's a Carmel in Reno, which is like a low-budget, more tawdry version of Las Vegas.) Maybe you'll get to see Harrison Ford big screen, and that will be a pleasant enough memory of Vegas.....

Gravatar I couldn't find Pirate Freedom in any of our local bookstores so I checked it out of the library...gave me a chance to renew my long-expired library card..I know shame shame.

I also was intrigued by a TOTALLY TRASHY novel.. Blasphemy by Douglas Preston...has to do with a supercollider so brings out the science geek in me.

I like your a idea of checking out a movie while I'm in Sin City, although I AM going to see Indy this weekend.. have to time it so I have amble time to get to Confession My hotel is also very close to Guardian Angel Cathedral (how appropriate)..will check their schedule and see if they have anything going on.

Viva Las Vegas!!
