Just from a directorial viewpoint, this comes as no surprise. Even if you don't like Jackson's early works, you can see he had the vision and energy for the Rings movies, and Adamson (Narnia's director) at least had experience in animation and effects works. Who in the world thought hiring the guy who directed American Pie and Down To Earth was a good choice to helm (and script) a multi-million dollar fantasy franchise? I see some career changes coming at New Line in the near future.

I suppose there's always the chance he had it in him...but he didn't.

There's something else everybody has 'in them', which is why every house has a bathroom!
Thanks for the review mate. I bet it gets tedious to review the rubbish unworthy of such attention when there are so many other excellent or even deliciously crappy B movies to entice you?
By the way, I tagged you for one of those meme's in a shameless attempt to discover more about Snuffles. Perhaps you could ask Snuffles to answer the meme?

i just need to compliment you on your three-tiered rating system. it is so REFRESHING to see a competent aesthetic theory put into practice.
to tell the difference between genre, craft, and a meta-ethics is very NERDY.
chalk up one more for the catholics.
(glad to find your blog. I forget how. blue boar, maybe?)

Looks like you already did some heavy lifting in your "one-stop" Phillip Pullman/TGC/HDM post, but I've been collecting links, too, and have posted them at my place:

I also put a link to your site in the blogroll and referred my readers your way. (Okay, so I only have like 2 readers, but still...) Stop by if you get a chance.
Cheers,
Clare

I thought it was a pretty good movie. A little slow to start, but otherwise a fun afternoon diversion.
