The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Of course there's no knowing which tour is going to stir up interesting dialogue, but this is one I wish you could have put in your thoughts. Vampires and the efficacy of the (physical) blood of Christ. Interesting stuff.

Nonetheless, thanks for supporting the tour, DG.

Becky

Gravatar Yes, indeed. I'm afraid the blog is currently on life support while I'm in seminary.

Gravatar A couple of mini-reviews to assist in the life support of the blog

Kilimanjaro by Mike Resnick, copyright 2008 (this library hardcover copy is an autographed copy). In this future Utopia the pastoral side and the modern technical side of an ethnic people of Africa clash as they try to co-exist on their newly-establish planetoid. Traditional lifestyle, roles, and cultural views of women and children conflict with modern government, lifestyle, and convenience. As the months pass the people learn that the two groups can struggle and exist apart, or bring together the best of each group for the betterment of their world. Not preachy but shows that the folks of the future have the same problems and conflicts we have today. A bit of a serious read but a short book.

New Dreams for Old by Mike Resnick, copyright 2006, library edition softcover. An excellent collection of short stories, ranging from the tear-jerker to the thought-provoking, Twilight-Zone creepy to the downright silly. His writing is comfortable and easy on the brain, with characters that capture your interest and graciously invite you into their respective worlds. Two immediate favorites are Travels with My Cats and Robots Don't Cry. Great book to pick up when you have only a few minutes to read after a long hard day.

Thanks to Xena who recommended that I might pick up one of Mike's books

Gravatar Please pray for me this week...I will be conducting a formal presentation to an international professional engineering conference this Thursday..my first one. Lots of buku smart people there. This is a big career opportunity for me and I am more than a bit nervous.

I'm trying very hard to keep the words of my beloved St Pio close to heart "Pray, hope , and don't worry." I too will keep you in my prayers as I will have an opportunity to visit a Cathedral during my trip. Will present all of your prayer intentions at the altar.

My airport book will be "Firestar" by Michael Flynn.

Gravatar Sara, I will pray for you.

Deej, again, thanks for not "mothballing" your blog.

Gravatar Thanks to everyone for their prayers--my presentation went AWESOME!! All your support really means alot

Vegas is an interesting place to be during Halloween...many, uh, INTRIGUING costumes...

Oh yes--went to Caesar's Palace and couldn't find the giant statue of David..I DID get a photo of the life-size one though..heheh

Gravatar Sara, very good to hear of your successful presentation!

Best photos we got in Vegas were at Star Trek: The Experience. It seems like ages ago. The costumes in the "museum" were un-flipping-believable. Also, nothing like a photo of someone you love in the hallway of the Enterprise D!

Gravatar Hey!! I'm now a godmother (effective today Now I guess I have to behave and set a good example (right

The Star Trek show is now gone..Vegas is really suffering due to the recession. Across from the Riveria Hotel where I stayed is a stalled project from the middle of last summer, lots of empty shops and the casinos are really cutting back on amenities and jacking up the prices on food and drinks. I couldn't find a cup of coffee anywhere for less than $3. Glad I brought my own little Hot Pot and made my own in my room...as you are well aware it is not in anyone's best interests to talk to me before I've had my 3rd cup of coffee

Also from the air you could see lots of half-built subdivisions--housing is really depressed..and it seemed like every other commercial on tv was for some lawyer to help you with foreclosure or bankrupcy..

"Firestar" is a long pokey book..it will be awhile before I finish it.

And Deej--Fr Erik says you need to take a weekend off and go see Zombieland..I need to see it myself before it leaves the theatres..maybe this weekend..

Gravatar I know you are busy, but my prayers are still with you. Though this is a blog about Science Fiction - how's Seminary going?
