Heh. On the one hand, I'm among those who will draw a line between SF and Fantasy *and* Horror, and who will (coldly, cruelly, and without a trace of charity) correct another's mistaken utterance of 'Trekkie' with "That's Trekker, please". On the other hand - SF, Speculative Fiction, scifi - I'm not really hung up on the terms, just so long as it's what I mean when I point to stories about robots and aliens and starships and future societies.
Which would make me an inconsistant labler, which probably drives the more fundamentalist sorts up the wall.
But Skiffy is Skiffy, and will remain Skiffy, no matter what they call themselves, until they go back in time and undue their cancellation of Farscape. Silly buggers.

I always thought that was supposed to be "ski fee."
Do you really mean this blog ISN'T about the sacrificial commitment to winter sports?

This irritates the living hell out of me. First of all, I don't like the name change; I think it is ridiculous. Second, their excuse for the change attacks their very viewers. My wife watches the SciFi Channel with me all the time, so I don't think they measured their audience very well. Perhaps if they had not gotten rid of shows like Farscape for horror garbage their ratings would be higher.
BTW, I don't comment often, but I read your blog regularly; you do a great job plus your blog is unique.

I think the point of the name change is that so no one can complain when they run their current fare of James Bond movies, Pirates of the Caribbean and monster movies.
It's sad, we don't need yet another clone of the USA/TNT/TBS channel.
But, on the other hand, I will be supportive when BBC America changes its name to 'The John Barrowman Channel'.
