You know, for me, The Matrix movies aren't aging very well,so I haven't even followed the production of this, but...

just the fact they've kept the original clothing and hairstyles shows some guts. Now I'm curious.

I was just commenting to Snuffles some time back that anime and manga characters tend to look Caucasian

I haven't seen that many anime or read that many manga, but I noticed the same thing almost immediately. Perhaps this means that many anime and manga were inspired by Western models or created for Western audiences?

Count yourself lucky. I blundered across this show in cable reruns years ago, and even as a kid I thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever seen. IMHO, it's a sign of the intellectual bankruptcy of the Hollywood suits that anybody would think this was a good idea for a live action movie.

Probably not so much bankrupt as gimmicky. A lot of people liked it as kids and so will be willing to watch a live action movie adaptation as adults. Expect the Pokemon live action movie in 2015.

I must admit, Speed Racer is not on my personal list of anime I'd like to see turned into live action films.
