The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Dear Mr. Davidson:

I check out your blog regularly. Thanks for the commentaries on Catholic/Religious/Ethical views within Sci-Fi. This particular one brought to the fore how little time I take to read fiction.

The first chance I get, I'll order one of YOUR books.

Peace and Joy,

Fr. Tom

Gravatar Thank you, Fr. Tom. That's much appreciated.

Gravatar Ha. Here, in this blog, I have found the one thing about whose existence I have always wondered: a sci-fi reader/writer who doesn't automatically assume that in the future, specific religions will go the way of the dodo bird. From stories in which Christian religions have become so warped they more closely resemble today's radical Islamic sects, to others which expound on the "One World Religion" concept and automatically assume that Catholicism will be absorbed by it, I've read it all. And in the magazines, anyone who dares to write a pro-religion comment to the letters pages is mercilessly slammed by everyone from the editors to other readers.

Now what we need is a good, riveting sci-fi story dealing with the "One World Religion" concept and highlighting the Catholic Church's refusal to join. I've been trying to give it a shot myself for several years now, but, unfortunately, I can't seem to get past that "basic premise" stage.

Ah, well. I guess it just isn't my tale to tell, so to speak.
