The Sci Fi Catholic Yak Module

Gravatar Like the early Christians, the Norsemen measured their life by heroic standards.

yeah, those "early" Christians....maybe she read the life of Damien of Molokai, whose miracle for beatification was just approved?

Gravatar The problem is not so much liberal religion as the Hollywood/Disney worldview that cannot abide tragedy and insists on happy endings and solving all problems by the end of the hour (maybe longuer if it is an arch).

It was not liberal religion that tacked on a happy ending to the Hunchback of Notre Dame (I will **never** forgive them for that).

People who cannot handle the idea of tragedy, or figthing for a lost cause will never have any depth, but they will fight tooth and nail for their illusions.

Gravatar ...Hollywood/Disney worldview...

Well, the Disney worldview, perhaps. Hollywood has turned out other films that don't have happy endings, though they aren't necessarily tragedies in the Greek sense. Not too long ago I saw The Departed and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, both of which have unhappy endings, though I thought both movies were lousy, especially in their conclusions (the only good thing about the end of The Departed was that the movie was over).
