We got our amendment! Woo-hoo!
"The pro-life Democrats and Republicans took a stand for the sanctity of life by passing the Stupak-Ellsworth-Pitts-Kaptur-Dahlkemper-Lipinski-
Smith Amendment on a vote of 240 to 194. This amendment prohibits the use of federal dollars to fund abortion in health care."
Now, everyone keep praying! It's not over yet!

I am most pleased. Still, I seriously can't get over the name of the amendment. Sounds like one of those over-long hyphenated names from a funny movie.

You mean like this (one of my husband's favorites)?
"How would you like to go through life with the name Cooper Banks-Mackenzie? The kid's gonna sound like a law firm."

3942 is the Veterans Health Care Stamp Act…
I think you are concerned about HR 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. (Major typo by the AUL…)
Either way, glad the amendment to the bill made it in!

Happy St John Lateran Day!!
This basilica in Rome is the seat of the Bishop of Rome, and absolutely amazing. The majesty is indescribable. This is the Pope's Church as Bishop of Rome, even though it is outside Vatican City. I spent considerable time in it a couple of years back when I was in Rome..also one of the few places in Rome where you could do Confession in English..

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Dr Bob Summers. He passed away Sat at age 65 of a heart attack--doing what he loved--playing billiards with the Weber State Billiards Team.
He was one of my Engineering professors at Weber State. He was instrumental in molding me into the engineering professional I am today. He took a nervous Air Force GI, more than a bit intimidated about the coursework I was undertaking, and 10-15 years older than the rest of my classmates, under his wing and was an awesome mentor and teacher. His office was open anytime for help with classwork or just to vent, and was always packed with students. He always had a cheery smile, and his students were number one in his life. He loved hanging out with students and would often take us out for pizza to talk shop and pass along nuggets of wisdom.
People say that the sign of a good teacher is one that you remember the rest of your life. Dr Bob is one of those teachers in my life.
God Bless...Sara

Will comply, Sara. Sorry for your loss.
I'm not sure this is an appropriate time to ask, but does this mean you play pool?

Sara, that line of yours sounds a little practiced. Are you sure you're not a shark? That's why I call it playing, though one family member could beat me with one hand tied behind his back. Seriously.
Can anyone tell me, is there a better English translation of Dante's Divine Comedy than that by Longfellow? (The original language is one I don't read... yet.)

Mini-manga review: My new public library has a hefty collection of graphic novels so from time to time I'll do a brief write-up. The library also sections them into adult and teen sections so I'll let you know where I found them and the probable criteria for the distinction.
Rurouni Kenshin (Volume 1), copyright 1994, softcover, located in adult section probably due to "blood-n-guts" fighting scenes. Loosely based on the historical character Kawakami Gensai and set in approximately the same historical setting. Typical boy-meets-girl (Kaoru--she is adorable), boy-saves-girl, pick up little rugrat side kick(Yahiko--he becomes very tiresome very quickly), she likes him and her likes her but they can't talk to each other. Kenshin is also very feminine in appearance--not even in a bishi-kind of way--he just LOOKS like a girl-- and the author does apologize for it in one of his commentaries. Artwork is nice and a fun read, I enjoyed it very much. Because of the fighting scenes/ violence would recommend for older teens. Characters are modestly dressed in historical costumes. Story lines are easy to follow and not alot of inside jokes...

For anyone looking to learn more about the Catholic faith check out the Catholic Home Study Service sponsored by the Vincentian community and the Missouri Knights of Columbus.
http://www.amm.org/chss.htm
They offer several free correspondence courses that you can pursue at your leisure and schedule. Right now I am taking We Worship--A Guide to the Catholic Mass. You read the book, answer the questions, submit the answers either by mail or online, and you will receive a certificate of completion. Donations are gladly accepted to help with the cost of the program. These would be especially nice for Advent or Lenten spiritual study.

Sara, thanks for the Rurouni Kenshin review. I may have to check that out, literally.
If you are really interested in attracting me, I'd advise not throw darts at them.
