With the success of the upcoming "Iron Man" filmm (which I hope our esteemed blogmaster will get around to reviewing), I suddenly had the urge to vent a little about comic book adaptations into film. Specifically about the portrayal of Juggernaut in "X-men: The Last Stand". The three biggest mistakes in regards to the Comic Book Canon with regards to Juggy are: 1) His relationship to Xavier is non-existent in the film; he walks (rolls?), right by his half brother and doesn't even acknowledge him! 2) They never portrayed his powers to the fullest: this guy is physically indestructible, he took the Hulk's best punches and wasn't even fazed. Thor was forced to banish Juggernaut to another dimension using his hammer, he was so desperate. Yet what is he doing throughout the movie? Smashing through walls and trying to be comic relief. 3) The writers forgot that Juggernaught's powers are MYSTICAL in nature, so the boy's mutant-negating powers shouldn't have worked. Let me say one thing upfront: I am NOT being a comic "purist". I have never read a comic until three months ago. All the information about Juggernaut I gathered from two sites, http://www.geocities.com/cain_ma...o_ny/
main2.html and http://www.marveldirectory.com/ |
