Really, David, don't you think the issue is rebellion, not necessarily science? I was an atheist, I now realize, not because of the preponderance of evidence, but because I fervently desired God not to exist. I did not want Him to interfere with my "fun". I was in rebellion against His authority more than doubting His existence and design. If He designed the universe, then He had a purpose for my life. I did not want to fulfill His purpose, I wanted to run my life the way I saw fit. In the end I realized that a random universe was purposeless and meaningless and no real love could exist. This realization I could not abide. I now see that realization was a work of grace. |
